Got the CR-1,now what?

Hi there!
I got my CR-1 Immigration Visa and now what? we are going to the States in a few weeks. What are we suppose to do next? would i need a work permit now?

Congrats!! CR-1 is a conditional visa meaning that you can work but it has to be renewed. You probably have the visa for one year. Let's say you enter on May 15, 2009 then your visa will expire on May 14, 2010. And you will have to apply for an extension 90 days before May 14, 2010. You will get letters from USNCIS and telephone numbers, case # etc. Keep those and make copies and store in a safe place.

Upon entering the US they will check your documents and will file for a Social Security number. You will be told that your SSN will come within 4-6 weeks. If it does not come at the end of 4 weeks, I would advise you to go to your local Social Security office (www.ssa.gov) and apply for an SSN so you can begin working, get bank accounts etc. Make sure you bring your passport at the Social Security office and fill out the application SS-5 (Application for SSN).
