Green card Through Marriage Interview?
|
Hi everyone!
My husband and I (I'm the Alien) are going to have an immigration interview after we're done filling for our papers. Has any of you out there been through it? We don't quite know what to expect.
Thanks for your help! Additional Details Thanks girls for your answers. I'm from France. My husband and I have been married for over 2 years now, up until now we could not afford the whole process of filling for papers.
We have been living together for a few years now, we have a common bank account, proof that we live together (lease), pictures...regular stuff. I can't help to be nervous about the interview!

If it is legit marriage, you don't need to be worried Simply bring supporting documents such as marriage certificate, weeding pictures, pictures of family outings, joint bank account, life insurance. beneficiary must be the other one(if you have one and a good one too), lease agreement shows both of you. Any other supporting documents proves you guys are married, and ofcourse copies if your tax file as married. Try to memorize everything you wrote in your application.
If you raise eyebrows to the official for any reason, this will make your process very complicated.
I believe, you will fine. Don't worry too much, Keep smiling, dress properly, act naturally. Answer only what they ask. Do not volunteer additional information. Like a job interview. Good luck. |

You never know what to expect. I have one friend who was interviewed with her husband and it only lasted 5 minutes - her husband is Swedish, she's American and they knew each other for 5 years.
But another friend who married a Peruvian woman, they were questioned separately for over an hour. They asked so many questions - what color is your spouse's toothbrush, how do they drink their coffee, what kind of beer do they drink, what side of the bed do they sleep on, what is your spouse's mother's name, what kind of pets did your spouse have growing up, what time is the alarm set for, what sports did your spouse play when younger, what food does your partner hate, etc, etc. She was already legally living and working in the US when they met and they had been together for 3 years, so it was no problem to get approved.
It all depends who is interviewing, what country you are from, and if there is any reason to think one person might be marrying the other just for a green card. If you are from a country that has a history of marriage fraud, it may be a longer interview. |

I did. It was easy. It was quick too. We brought some photos, different memory type stuff that showed things we did together before we married. We brought our child. We brought all the vital info that was required. What do you what to know specifically?
Good luck. I'm sure you will do fine. I don't even think we had a joint bank account at the time. It took us a little bit of time too because the cost. But my husband was so relieved once he got his green card! |

We just did it and it was a pleasant experience. The officer first goes through your paper work to verify the information with you. He/she may ask you questions about your husband's birth date, stuff like that.
Then you need to show proof of a legitimate marriage - anything from join bank accounts, real estate, car insurances, joint tax returns, pictures etc. If you have children together that's a great evidence..
He/she will then tell you if your case is approved or else. If it is approved, you will get a written notice in a week or so and you will get your green card in about three weeks in the mail.
Good luck. |
