Gurkhas: has common sense prevailed?

The vote is not binding but it shows Gordon Brown what the country wants.

The sooner they pass the bill to allow them to settle in the UK the better. They are superb people

That is great news....
I fully agree and support Mr Sceptic's AE on that answer. And in addition, Clown Brown and his lunatic government has learned nothing about honour, courage, loyalty and respect in all the years they have been in office. The Gurkhas however, our closest allies on the battle field in virtually every battle that Britain has taken part in for the last 200 years have more than proved themselves worthy of citizenship in Great Britain. I am proud of our gallant soldiers AND their families and they are more than welcome to live here.

Please support the Joanna Lumley appeal and sign the petition if you want the Gurkhas to be allowed to stay - if they wish. Nearly 50,000 people have signed it since Friday night, and it's nearly up to 200,000 signatures now. Please HELP, and sign if you haven't already done so.

I applaud the Lib Dums for once. The Gurkha's i have met have been some of the finest human beings you could wish to meet are fearless and have stood by this country because they gave their word to do so a long time ago.
A word of honour may mean nothing to the likes of Gordon Brown or Liebour because he has not even managed to stick to any pledge he has given.

So sad that Labour chose to disgrace our country by trying to keep these brave men out. Even the BNP support the Gurkhas' right to be here. Common sense has truly prevailed, but by a surprisingly slim margin.

Maybe we could kick a few Taliban supporters out to make space for our friends.

I don't think there has been much common sense. It seems that there is some underlying racism here, which the BNP are clearly hoping to exploit by supporting the campaign.

Whether or not it is a good idea depends on how much extra immigration there will be. Joanna Lumley's estimate is a very small number and the government estimate up to 100,000. Will the BNP really be happy if ithe government's estimate turns out to be accurate?

No it has not.
Now every would-be immigrant in the world will be claiming that they fought for Britain (at some obscure time) and have a right to settle here too.
The floodgates will open.

We DON'T want even more immigrants in this country. I don't care if they've joined our army or not - thats up to them, but they shouldn't be getting citizenship for it.
