Had enough of UK. What's the USA like in comparison?
|
I've had enough of life in the UK. When I separated from my violent husband in the miltary, I was charged a fortune by the military as I stayed in the married quarter a couple of months after he moved so they charged me the market value and the local council wouldn't put me on the housing list, as being in an area with the military isn't classed as local connections and I wasn't a single mother. I expect if I was an extremist religious asylum seeker they would house me straight away. Anyway, all I ever do now is pay fuel bills in this cold country and I can just about afford to drive with the fuel costs. I want to go away and start a new life. My friend has opened a business in the USA and I was thinking of going there to work. What's life like there compared to the UK for an educated European person? Is it possible to seek asylum in the USA from the UK? Additional Details I think it would be around Missisippi. That sounds nice if they're friendly. Everybody here are miserable bas***ds.

You'd be better off moving to Australia or Canada. |

Asylum> You would have a hard time proving that you are being oppressed by the state and your life is in danger from the UK authorities because they wouldn't give you a council house.
As an educated European person in the UK I got a job and paid rent. I suspect that is what you would need to do in the US as well except you would have to pay for your own health care. |

There's no benefits in the USA. What will you do if you get sick? There's no NHS to take care of you in Mississippi. What happens if you can't find a job and have no place to stay? There's no council houses in Mississippi. Trust me--stay in the UK, you have it made. If anything, I'd travel to other countries in the EU (maybe Nordic countries). Or if you must go to an English speaking country, Australia or New Zealand are both better options than the U.S. |

I am a citizen of the US and the UK.
Not in a million years would you be able to apply for asylum. It is not as if you come from Somalia. Other than that how would you get a visa? Doable if you have a job lined up but it will take very much time.
Mississippi and most areas around the gulf coast are the worst places in the US. Of course there are nice people about.
For the most part life in the US is just fine. Besides the UK does not recognize foreign renunciations. So if you became a US citizen you would be a dual citizen. |

No, you cannot seek asylum in the US from the UK (was that a rhetorical question?lol), there is no war there lol also, if you feel EVERYONE in the UK is negative, then maybe its not all them, maybe its you?
But, in response to your question, you could get your friend who has started a business to apply for a H1B visa for you if she can prove that you are highly skilled (a Uni. degree would come in handy) ,its alot more likely than you getting asylum from one of americas biggest allies on no grounds whatsoever lol
You better save as you don't want to end up in the projects in the US lol.. different story to the Council Housing in the UK |

Its great if you have a stable and reliable income.
They have no NHS and little in the way of "safety net" social security over there, so if you lose your income you can end up on skid row, unable to even provide yourself with medical treatment. There are no council houses, no social housing, no housing benefit, nothing. Its a tough country.
If you can be sure of having a reliable, middle-large income and a job which will provide you with medical insurance (and which is totally secure) then go for it.
Otherwise, be very careful, people in America who fall on hard times have it VERY tough, much more so than we do in the UK. America is a pretty great country if you're rich, not so great if you're not.
In order to get into the USA you'd need a green card which would mean getting a job and not just any job, you have to prove you have a skill they are looking for - you're most likely to be able to get a green card if you are a highly skilled professional. You also have to prove that you have a large income and ample funds (and we're talking £10,000-£20,000+, here) in the bank with which to support yourself.
And no you can't "claim asylum" in the US from the UK. |

you chose the path you walked the walk now its asylum seekers fault you find your self not able to get a council house.
its so easy to blame every one else, your ex husband the army the council.

Depends what part you're going to. The U.S. is very diverse. If you're wanting "middle America", apple-pie-and-forth-of-july, then you're looking at places like Utah, Ohio, PA etc. They're very friendly and talkative to pretty much anyone, which I've been told by a few Europeans isn't the case in their own countries. |

It's great. You will realise what a stupid lot the English are. Warm, friendly and hospitable. Lovely people-similar to South Africans.
Go and don't look back. Reinvent yourself and be what you want to be. |
