Has anyone filed for a green card procedure without lawyers' help?

If so, where is a good place to get a kit and info?

I went through my petition and green card process without hiring immigration lawyer. We did it on our own and we didn't encounter any delays or denials. The advice I could give you is give time to read and read again carefully the instructions and the requirements ( www.uscis.gov) before filing your application.Make sure that you are sending a complete application and as much as possible give only on what is asked of you to file. The website that was also a great help in reading up guides and joining forums about the green card process is www.visajourney.com. Good luck.

I do! It's easy, you have all the instructions where to file, what documents you needed and what to do next. Immigration site provides them all. Plus there are other sites that may answer your questions. Forms has instructions on how to fill it up. So no worries! Just get all info you needed, prepare all necessary documents, then you're on your way. Good luck!

My own guess is that 90% or more do NOT use an attorney. For most applications an attorney is NOT needed. The forms are simple.

On what basis are you trying to get a Green Card?

Just fill out the paper work following the instructions on each sheet and pay the fees. File on time. INS office would be able to provide the kit and info for free. Good Luck.

The Incredible Hunk-chery buster
No necessity for a lawyer to get your green card. If you have basic high school education i.e. understanding of English,- as your text suggests-you should be able to do it by yourself with no problems. But if you`re slopping over with $$$ go get and make a lawyer happy..Any immigration office should have the forms, or you might even be able to do it on line,..or get printable application forms on line.

I am a professional engineer. The process looks simple enough but the details are horiffic. Rather than take a chance with what will be hundreds of thousands of dollars of future earnings, it is well worth it to just not take the chance of what could be years of delay if even one detail is messed up.

I would not chance it. It's a lot of paper work, sometimes you can get miss little details that a lawyer would not. They are worth it. My green card was granted within 3 months of filing thanks to my lawyer. I know people that are still waiting after one year because they did not hire a lawyer.
