Have any of you EVER seen first hand how hard it is to get through the red tape and become a legal citizen?

I hear people talking about "deporting" all the 'illegal' immigrants as if we are merely taking out the trash. They are people and they deserve the chance to better their lives. I know that legally is the 'correct' way of immigrating, but it's nearly impossible.

Thanks for all of your answers. I understand that they have still broken the law, but I do not believe in mass deportation. I do think that those that have committed a serious crime (other than crossing the border) should be punished accordingly, especially those that have raped or killed others. I don't however, think it's fair to deport a father because he hasn't received his papers yet when he puts in an honest days work, just like the rest of us.

And excuse me for having a heart.

If it's "nearly impossible," then how come there are people doing it all the time??

BRYAN H
then why do several thousand people do it legally each year. i do sympathize and i might even follow the same path if i were in similar situation but the laws are in place for a reason. one cannot make excuse for breaking the law and those who break any law should be punished.

Really....that's why I live with a naturalized citizen....because it's impossible to become a legal alien.

His parents applied for (and received) work visas when he was a child. He naturalized at 18 to join the Air Force.

But you are right - if you have nothing to offer to this society, and don't already have gainful employment lined up - it is hard to come here. But it's hard for a reason - we don't need any more people living off the welfare system.

And that is why we have laws... Your attitude is criminal

Well, There is also a difference between people who are trying to take the right steps, and most of the ones in hiding who didn't even bother. The fact is laws are in place for a reason! I am sick of people who come here and ask if I speak spanish! I have not learned spanish due to that alone! If you are going to come here, you must obey our laws! If you can't obey the first one (Being here legally) what else will you choose to disobey! And they need to learn to speak ENGLISH!

Making alot of money in a short time is nearly impossible. I guess it is ok for me to start robbing banks because it is just too hard to do it legally.

America has NO obligation to take in ANY immigrants, and we have every right to control who and how many are allowed. Illegals have NO right to think we are obliged to allow them in or to stay here. It is our country, go home and fix your or just go away.

Mike K
It isn't nearly impossible. I know three people from different countries who have pulled it off. It just takes TIME, EFFORT, and following the law.

I am all for people bettering their lives in their own countries of citizenship or if they have come to us legally. if they have arrived illegally they simply need to get the (*&%(* out. They have no right to improve their lives on my dime. They have no right to spend one minute more in a country they violated the law to enter.

If you "have a heart" as you claim, then you would send them home immediately (family and all) to they can live in a country where they can participate in the political process and stop driving down wages of legal citizens of America. Having a heart should include looking at the big picture, not just individual sob stories.

Razor Jim
Sorry but people enter that way every day. It is no excuse to break the law. Do you know how hard it is to get a home loan with no money down right now? Should people rob the banks since its so hard?

layla
try going to an illegals country and let us know what happened. that's if you make it back a live. I'm not being hateful, but that's the truth. if you go to another country illegally you will either be thrown in jail, raped, sold or killed.

Victor S
Your comments will fall on deaf ears to those of us who know that, red tape included, America allows more legal immigration than all other countries combined.

Funny how you pro-illegals never mention that fact when criticizing American immigration policy.

crazydeb16
it's not impossible many people do it everyday legally... i did, it took a short time to get everything together... and it was a pain w/ interviews, medical tests etc... but it's worth the effort!

i have seen people immigrating to other countries w/ much more trouble than the US... and honestly, it takes work, but i rather do that than lie, steal and cheap~

violatedyetagain
I think we should fine and or incarcerate people who aid llegals like yourself too.

I don't care how hard it is. It is LAW, and it is there for a reason. Do you know how hard it is for a cleptomaniac not to steal? Well, we have laws aganst theft, and one caught stealing faces sanctions under our laws. So because the criminal illegals are trying to "have a better life" does that exemt them from the Federal law of the United States?

Mavs rule
Yes it is REALLY hard to go through the legal process, it takes years, a lot of time and a lot of money. People still do it coz this is the BEST country on the planet.

The people born and living here are hard working and law abiding (most of us) citizens. If we break a law, then we go to jail or get punished for doing so.
There are lots of Americans over here already suffering from poverty and whatnot, but that doesn't give them a right to steal and not follow the laws.
So what gives illegal aliens the right, just because they are poor or whatever the case is in their country, to do an illegal act and sneak over the border and you feel sorry for them?
Did you know that if the illegals do a crime here that they will only be punished here by deportion (No court, no trial, no jail). Such as an illegal who raped a 12 year old girl recently, his country made him come back and we deported him, but were not allowed to try him or lock him up here, so he got off free!!!!!!!!!!
If it's so hard for them then how come they get our social security that WE pay into every week. Not them. They get free healthcare, paid by who, BY US! so get your facts straight.
Some of them get free college for doing nothing other than sneaking in here. If they want better lives, they need to do it LEGALLY!
just like we have to do. Just because you're born somewhere else doesn't give you the right to break the law.

I went through it and I found it a LOT easier, faster and cheaper than walking all the way from Central America and paying a coyote to cross you over...Now THAT is tough and I would not deny anyone the opportunity of a better life. I don't feel I'm a superior human being because of where I was born in which I was merely lucky and had no say in it.

That said there has to be some control but I don't stand for mass deportations. Look at it case by case, deport the ones with real criminal history not merely the ones whose only crime has been to lack papers to work.

It can't be too hard if millions of people do it every year - we take in more immigrants than the rest of the world combined. If you are so all fired up for them fine - let them live at your house and you can support them.

whuts impussible?

peeple get citizunships alla time without no problum

You're right, and that's why we need to make it easier for QUALITY immigrants to get here, but harder for LOW QUALITY immigrants to get here.
I hate to be politically incorrect, but that's the truth.

We have hordes of the underclass pouring in from south of the border.
We can't take care of all these people, it's just the way it is.
I don't blame them for wanting to be here, but they don't ALL deserve to be here. They should stay and try to fix their own countries.

1. We need a wall across the southern border, and we need to deport a lot of illegals, especially the ones who are breaking our laws and sponging off our social services.

2. We need to streamline the process for non-underclass immigrants.

But the fact we're screwing up on #2, doesn't mean we should keep screwing up on #1.

NO we have to deport all illegals no matter how hard it is to be a legal My greatgrandmother did it as well as my greatgrandfather so why can't they? However i do agree it needs to be streamlined to be a bit easier

In Canada yes.
I was legal for the entire time, but I spent over 5 years fighting to get my permanent residency. Now I am finally a PR.

There are 4 billion people in the world poorer than the average Mexican worker (selected as the country where more illegal immigrants to our country originate than any other.) Hence the answer will often by 'no' or 'wait'. That doesn't mean those willing to jump the line should get rewarded..

Yes, my best friend fell in love with a Phillipino girl while they were working on a cruise ship together. They got married a year later and it took them a year from that point to get her to even be able to move here. It's ridiculous. The only place it's harder to get in is Denmark
