Have you had good experiences with USA Immigration?
(I am assuming Customs and Border Patrol {CBP} as IMMIGRATION is one damn big department)
A. Yep, but I get to go through the US Citizens line at the airport, or coming back from Mexico or Canada.
There may be considerations that I know nothing about for the times that you went through a US Customs Entry Station.
INS/ CBP Officers are trained BUT you need to think about this, when a small and previously UNIMPORTANT federal agency grows exponentially, almost overnight, there are growing pains and teething problems. It takes time and you probably got caught up in that regards - experience MUST accompany training.
CBP Officers perform the full range of inspection, passenger and cargo analysis, examination and law enforcement activities related to the arrival and departure of persons, merchandise and conveyances such as cars, trucks, aircraft and ships at the ports of entry. The officer’s primary responsibility is to detect and prevent terrorists and weapons of mass destruction from entering the United States while facilitating the orderly flow of legitimate trade and travelers. This requires enforcing laws related to revenue and trade, seizure of contraband, interdiction of agricultural pests and diseases, and admissibility of persons..
BTW: If your Hispanic neighbors are ILLEGAL you are duty, ethically, legally and morally bound (as is your husband) to report same!
