That's because our government has catered to them. Instead of following the laws that state they have to learn English. My feelings are if you live in a country learn the language. But our government gives them to many incentives to not learn our language.

I don't know about you but I havent noticed any brazen attempt to shun English. Those i know that spoke spanish beforehand speak it in the same intervals they did before. I think you just didn't notice till someone pointed it out to you

I want to learn spanish just so I can piss off all you anti immigration people. Id only speak english around people I know and I'd speak spanish everytime I'm around people I dont know just to make all you ignorant people angry.

I live in Arizona,a lot of people speak Spanish here..I cant say I have noticed any increase in it being spoken. So Id have to say no not in my state,it seems about the same.Why should it be changed.Nothing has happened that would change anything.The election hasn't caused
any changes where I live.In fact our laws have tightened for illegal aliens.The Democrats have so far done nothing,they may give the illegal hope but until I actually see them doing anything to help them I'm not going to be the least bit concerned.Promises made in an election year usually don't reach fruition very quickly ,if at all.
There will not be any blanket amnesty.I would bet on that.The Democrats know that 2008 isn't that far off and it would hurt them too much.The majority of American people do not want that to happen.They might get a guest worker program,but not blanket amnesty.

Let me put it to you this way...if you moved to the continent of Africa, and settled in one of it's many prosperous countries, would you not want to hang on to your roots or language to pass on to your offspring? Last time I checked, they are still teaching German, French, and Spanish, in high schools. Why is this? The way I see it, language shouldn't be the barrier and people need to be more mindful that we are living in the biggest melting pot of a country called the United States of America! What a great place to live and even experience all the different tastes, sounds and cultures, all without having to go far and spend alot of money traveling! You, my friend, are indeed privileged from other countries that aren't so enriched with such diverse and ethnic cultures....now go and have yourself a great Mexican dinner at your favorite Mexican restaurant. (or Chinese, or Thai, or Italian, or French, or Vietnamese, or German... etc, etc, etc.)

I wanna refresh something here. I'm from Venezuela. Yes. I'm not mexican. For some reason a lot of people think of "spanish" and "latino" as Mexicans only. Totally wrong. I don't make tacos at home, i don't listen to mariachi and i don't come from Tijuana. I don't hate mexicans. I'm Latin American, and i wanna make this point clear. Now....

I live in San Diego, and i believe what you say. A lot of people talk in spanish right away without even think about it. But let me tell you one thing.... i live in San Diego! A lot of people speaks spanish down here, so i didn't notice any big change. I'm sorry.

Honestly why does it matter if they speak their language? No where does it say that in the United States of America that you must speak English. Furthermore English isnâ€™t even the most widely spoken language, it is mandarin Chinese. The point is that it isnâ€™t right to get angry at someone for speaking the language they were born speaking regardless of where they come fromâ€¦.As one answerer saidâ€¦ We are a melting pot of people! I think that the only reason you â€œnoticeâ€ anything is because the issue of illegal immigration(why even call it just that since it seems to me it should be called illegal Mexican immigration since Mexicans are the only illegals targeted) is a very sore one with you. And anyway, it is obvious that you donâ€™t care to conversate with Mexican Americans anyway so it shouldnâ€™t concern you that they arenâ€™t speaking English.

I was raised with the spanish language.Some people are proud and some people do not want to be associated with having a spanish name. Now that I know better I do not want to be asociated with the spanish language. The ones that brought spanish to America came here to plunder and take everything they could from the south American Indians. I am proud to be a Mexican -American Indian but do not associate with spanish blood.I know better.

So what if they speak their language? The last time I heard, speaking a different language is not illegal.

I speak Tagalog and English.

Edit: I wonder if you can tell which of the Mexicans who are speaking Spanish you're seeing outside are illegals or not? If you can, you must have some kind of superpowers.

I have since the first march. I saw it but it was in direct relation with the area you lived in. After the first march it crossed to totally "in your face" and violent reactions to anyone who didn't agree.

Spanish language was spoken in United States before English.
