Hey please tell me what to do cause I am lost.?

Alright. here is the story. I was brought by my parents to the U.S. from Mexico when I was 2 years old. Then they left me with my grandparents later and they both simply disappear. I have never gone back to mexico and if i were to get deported I would have no where to go. At this moment I am living with my dad's sister who is american. I am 17 years old and about to graduate from high school. I think about my future all the time but there is no point because of my status. If anyone could give any advice of what to do it would be great. THANKS

CUrias
Ordinarily I'm against any illegals but cases like yours, at least I believe, are different. You didn't have a say in the matter and have not been able to have a say.

You have to investigate the laws but don't disclose your status to anyone - particularly any friends or acquaintances. There has to be something that you can do. What is incredibly important though is that you don't have any type of criminal record as this will be held against you. Once you have investigated the laws, act on what will best suit your needs. It's probably okay to talk to an attorney because there is such a thing as attorney/client privilege.

Someone suggested marriage but I don't think this type of arrangement is possible anymore. Especially given the state of affairs since 9/11.

I wish you the very best as I can't see you as anything other than an American. You have absolutely not ties to any other nation and sincerely hope that your loyalties are to the U.S..

Take care and God bless. Whatever you do, don't give up.

Additional: Someone also mentioned the military. You should check into this (probably on the down low) to verify if this is possible. If it is, it sounds like your ticket to at the very least legal status.

I just thought of something else. I don't know what part of the U.S. you're in but, if there's a large hispanic and illegal community, you may be lucky enough to encounter some kind of group that dedicates themselves to helping people in your situation. Again, I would ordinarily look down on people circumventing the law, but they may as well serve you as long as they're out there.

apply for legal status..green card etc...

I am sorry to hear that I don't know the rules for the US I would have thought that since you've resided in the US for 15 years that you must be elegible for citizenship by now. You see the rules are different here in the UK . However I don't think you should see your future as bleak you're only 17 with the world ahead of you, you can make it your own wherever you are. There must be something you fancy doing as a job or career ?
Is there not a Citizens Advice Bureau near you? (or something similar for the US) they could give you impartial advice that is confidential without the authorities being involoved. They would give you pointers to your legal status. I wish you the best to get this unhappy state resolved and good luck for the future.

try to consult your aunt and don't hesitate, this is crucial for her to know your situation and as the others say, apply for american citizenship.

Go talk to a immagration lawyer about it

Mama~peapod
Go and see a lawyer as soon as you can as you are classed as a minor still until you are 18. Talk to the school counselor or teacher about your situation (they will be able to help point you in the right direction), as you are going to need help to get papers etc in order.

At the moment you are classed as an illegal, so by dealing with the situation now as you enter legal age (18), you have more of a chance of this being a positive outcome. Rather than leaving it until you are 30 when the fact that you did nothing about trying to fix the situation will not help!

Good luck

You are very lost!! And so far away from home. But don't worry the people at ICE can help you out.

When you become an adult, you are responsible for yourself. You can't worry about the past or blame others. Do what is necessary to become legal.

Otherwise you risk losing all (deportation) if you ignore the problem.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DREAM_Act

This link, last updated 8th August 2007, explains what the Act is, the history of the Act, and the arguments for and against it.

As an Australian, I had never heard of it before. It sounds basically good, but the trouble is that even though it has the support of both Republicans and Democrats, no one has been able to get it passed. The effort to get it passed has been going on for half of "Lopezgold1" 's life, and I don't think he and ppl like him should hold their breath

Sorry, mate, there is nothing I can do to help you except encourage you to keep from getting depressed and giving up on life.

Keep studying hard and get the best marks you can, partly for your own self-esteem, but also because that is the only way a door can be opened for you in future. You do not know what opportunities will develop for you in future.... it may take years, but something will change for the better, I am sure.

EDIT: Gee, CUriass, what gives you the right to look down on anyone?

Join the Army when you get out of school. When you are active duty military, and you serve in a combat zone, you can apply for expedited citizenship.

uh.....say no to illegal immigration.

Micky
You need to speak with immigration now, you are 17 and not yet at that adult mark where it will be held against you. I'm sure there is something in place to help you especially since it sounds like there is no family that you know of in mexico. If your dads sister is American, perhaps she can adopt you or maybe there is some sort of sponsorship. Good luck.

How did you get through school with out a social security # I dont think you will have anything to worry about, but why dont you talk to someone and see then you wont have to go through life wondering if you will have to leave.

rebecka d
somehow at the time when your parrents tooke you to USA, they must have gone through the UScostums to be able to get you into the country, so therefore i dont see any problam for you to saty in usa....and besides, your dads sister who is your anti, is american, she could adopt you and in that way you will become an american ctizent...

Wait for a few months. Dream Act is coming for people like you. According to Dream Act, you can become a U.S citizen !!!

serenely, soMEone
Not unlike 6 billion others in this world, you are NOT a citizen of this country. They aren't. You aren't. Just as I am not a citizen of France or the Philippines.

I'm not heartless and hope not to sound that way. But we in the middle class are paying for this and we can NOT afford it! Never could.

If you're sent back, build a nation there so this never happens again.
