How Do Green Card Holders Apply For Prolonged Stay In Home Country?

I'm asking this on behalf of my aunt. She's a green card holder and has no citizenship. And now she's back in China hospitalized for her breast cancer. The treatment will last for months. But she's required to be back to U.S. in 6 months and now she's been there for 3 months.

So she has to apply for prolonged stay in home country(China). Can she apply online?

I just checked the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service website but had no idea where to find the related information. Anyone can help me out??

She should have applied for re-entry permit (Form I-131) before she left the US. That will allow her 2years to be out of the country without putting her residency at risk of abandonement.However, USCIS website allows green card holders to be out of the country at least a year and a day more than that will be considered abandonment of green card status. Staying out of the country though for more than 6 months will already raise question to an Immigration Officer. The best she can do is to return back to the US before 1 year is up.She can bring her medical records and probably a medical certificate from her doctor that she had been sick and was under treatment for many months that required her to stay out of the US for almost a year .
