Ok,i came here with an f-1 visa and would be graduating soon,write my NCLEX exams in NY and become a full fledged RN,but my headache is about getting a green card to work and possibly visit my country and come back.I have searched the entire websites and all the talk about foreign trained nurses applying for Green cards or Schedule A group or something,do they mean US trained non- residents can get work permit and work after graduating nursing school here in the US? Or the US trained RN is also under the Schedule A group for green cards? 2.How can i get my working papers right after school,should it be a hospital sponsoring me? 3.As a US -trained upcoming RN,do i have a much brighter chance of getting my green card and work permit right after graduation than someone who didnt have college nursing training in the US? 4.Can i work with the OPT( Optional practical training) after graduation?Are there restrictions on working with the OPT? Also,is it a must to get a job offer before i can apply for the OPT,or can apply for OPT without having a job offer from any hospital? 5.I heard the green card to nurses comes much faster than most other employment based green cards,how true is this? 6.Any further advice about the green card and work permits for A US TRAINED REGISTERED NURSE?. You need to find a hospital, nursing home or other medical facility that's willing to sponsor you for a work visa.
You don't have to worry about taking the CGFNS Exam since you are US educated. You might be required to pass the TOEFL if English is not your first language. You should take and pass the NCLEX-RN. Kaplan has a great study and review program for it.
You should be able to work for a year on the OPT.
I would think that you would have a great chance of finding an employer since your degree is from a US school. |

This is not my best area so I am not 100% sure , but I have a feeling because you are already here on a visa you can adjust status from your current visa to permanent resident , and so when your chosen employer sponsors you it will be a bit different because you are already here.
The fact you are US trained I don't think will change the process that much with the exception of avoiding the dreaded CGFNS (They are so incompetent and so very slow) and probably having the 2 year post graduate expereince will be waived because you are US trained but it will make hiring you more desirable, not that getting a job as an RN is difficult. I am not sure if it will make the greencard process quicker except that you would possibly be adjusting status instead.
Immigration still has nursing in its high priority category and it should be as fast as any immigration process could be.
As your situation is unusal in as much as you are not foreign trained or coming from outside of the US, then a visit to your local USCIS wouldn't be a bad idea to find out exactly what you need to do.Its easier than it used to be and you can get an appointment via info pass.
I wouldn't delay though, you don't want to find yourself with your current visa expired unable to work. |
