How can I discover if my great grandfather became a naturalized US citizen or not?

Search records in the place where he lived while in the US. If he was naturalized, you might find it in either State or Federal Court Records.

Hi, I'm not really sure how you could research the "naturalized US citizen" part, but if you don't find an answer here, try any of the many genealogy websites: US Genweb, Ancestry.com, and Cyndi's List spring to mind.

You could also try a search at http://www.familysearch.org/ENG/search/frameset_search.asp

FamilySearch.org is a website of the Church of LDS; however, they keep track of people of all religions. Type your grandfather's name and any other pertinent data, then be sure and try a search in both Albania and again for the U.S.: no telling what information will pop up, where.

you would have to search the census for that year and what part of america he came to when he first arrived and go from there.

Find his social security number - call the social security administration office and ask them to run a check and validate the status of his citizenship.

The first SSNs were issued by the Social Security Administration in November 1936.

Dear Sir: My Great grandfather emmigrated from San Fransisco to Australia in 1856 on the James A Falkenberg.He was about twenty years old or a bit older when he came to Australia on his own .He was an entrepenuer as his brothers were. He was the youngest brother to Isaac Lea and Thomas and Rhodes Lea, He was one the son of John Lea 11.That is why we have got heaps of cousins in America. He was born in Sowerby Bridge in Britain and went to America with his brothers. His brothers owned a farm in southern Indiana, the went across the great plains to California passing through Nebraska. They settled at Florin Rd. at Sacremento county in California When he left San Francisco a lot of his records were destroyed in the earthquake. He was in the census while he was in America, mainly in southern Indiana and California.
