How can I permanently immigrate from USA to Australia if I am over 45?

I am a nurse (LVN) and work on a medical/surgical floor and will be an Registered Nurse in 2010 and will have 3 years experience by then. I was looking for a work VISA to go to Australia to work as a nurse and want to permanently move there but websites say I am not eligible as I am over 45!!! I had no idea that 47 was so old as to not qualify! This is really bringing me down. Just now when I am free of responsibilities and ready to start living my life suddenly I can't do the things I want because I am perceived as too old to immigrate?!? That is my dream. Now what? Help!

If you can get employer sponsorship by an employer who is prepared to go to bat for you, being over 45 isn't necessarily the barrier than you may think.

I know that the Mater Hospital in Brisbane has already successfully sponsored a number of overage nurses (I believe that some have been over 50), so that would be a good place to start but I doubt it would be the only hospital that would be prepared to do that. You're very fortunate in your occupation as nurses are so desperately needed here that age isn't the barrier that it would be for most other professions. I'm not sure how you'll get on for sponsorship with only 3 years' experience, but it's definitely worth a try.

It won't be worthwhile applying until you're an RN, but would definitely be worth looking into after that. The following link is to the Mater's overseas recruitment site:

Dear Sirs, Really you will be amazing as to why I am applying but no matter a man always do his efforts to find and succeed if the luck is avilable. I am Estimator, Quantity Surveyor and ost control specialist and I have a vast knowledge and experience in the line but unfortunately every where I am looser because of my age problem. I could not understand as to why such hard and fast rules result in staying in the way of development. Should I approach your Government whether I can be accepted to work in austrailia and use my exerpience and talents for the whole benefits of the australia to be come a national and work there. My age is at this time 79 years and am still working for an Orgaanization with full responsibility and zeal and efforts. I hope I shall noty be dishearted and refused to avail this chance to shift myself for the whole benefits of australia.
