I'm an Au Pair my contract will be done in may, a second family offer me job out of the company that brought me here, they say they will help me with the paperwork but they don't know what they have to do, what is the process?? my visa is J-1

Hey DUDE in the first response - she is not illegal she went through all the proper channels to be in the country.
As for the answer I am not sure I was on an H1B visa, which you are allowed to three year visas, I am not sure about J-1's here is INS's website they have all the information on there as well as contact information;

Go home. Au pairs are forbidden to remain under the terms of the au pair agreement. You cannot get another visa to reenter for 2 years after you return home. If you overstay your current visa or change employers, you will not get any future visas.
Your agency should know that au pairs are forbidden to remain and must return to their own country. It looks like they want fees, but that could lead to your being arrested, detained (jailed), deported and barred from reentry. Make sure you go home before your visa expires. |
