How can a student receive financial aid if his or her parents are illegal ?

I suggest he/she consult with the Financial Aid in his/her school about the situation. A student will have to present the income tax returns of his/her parents to show that they are really below the cut off income required by the government but since his/her parents did not pay their income taxes (some illegals still pay), then he/she does not qualify aid from the government.

The reason why I suggested consulting with the Financial Aid office is for them to be able to offer advise on how to go around this law. After all, he/she is a student who so desires an education. Education is life changing because one would be independent for life and will not have to rely on anyone as well as the government for help. Education can also advance the family situation by digging them from poverty to a better life so I applaud all students who, despite their difficulties, want an education. It benefits the individual, family and society as a whole. No one should be denied an eduction because of not being able to afford it and since he is a US citizen, then he/she hopefully qualifies in some other way. If he is an emancipated adult or living on his/her own then, he only needs to show his income tax payments and not his/her parents. I hope everything works out.

It will affect you because it's your parents income that is used to qualify you for financial aid.

If you can pay for college yourself then you can go.

But since your parents didn't respect your fellow Americans enough to obey our laws then no financial aid for you and your illegal alien border criminal parents get DEPORTATION NOW.

What you describe as hate comments are in fact the truth. Hate comment laws are how thugs murders and dictators have maintained power all over the world and all through out history. If the person is over 18 and a legal citizen of the US (whether by birth or naturalization), the person is entitled to apply for student financial aid on the same basis as any other student who is a US citizen.

Where there are often problems lies with the parents completing the FAFSA application for their child. Many illegal aliens refuse to complete the appropriate applications and documentation for their child because they are illegal and do not want to expose that fact. Also, they refuse because they do not wish to reveal all the money they get from various sources. Some parents have committed child-identity theft to claim (illegally & fraudulently) that the child is a citizen, but the child is actually another illegal alien, and they fear getting caught on felony identity theft charges. Lastly, they have problems documenting their income since they have not filed tax returns. Blame the parents, not the financial aid system.

I don't think illegals or their children should get anything. TheUS does not care about it's own people it only cares about the illegals. I say they close the border, arrest all the illegals, and amend the constitution so that in order for someone that is born here to be a citizen then a parent must at least be a permanent resident. Actually the Constitution was written so that children of slaves would be citizens and as usual the lazy senate and Congress just let anyone become a citizen because they did not want to enforce the laws.

Just say your parents are from a different country... FAFSA won't ask for your parent's income if you live on your own.

i believe it doesn't really matter if her/his parents are illegally in the USA since it is not them who will receive the help from the government but he/she who is a citizen , there has to be advisers at her high school or the college she wants to go to who probably can guide him/her though the process if there were any problems ... BTW once she reaches the age of 21 she can go ahead and petition her/his parents if he she wants .... so best of luck and please ask him/her to keep up at school .
