How can so many people hate the USA and be trying to get their green cards at the same time?

Great Question and one I've often thought about. Here are some possible reasons:

1. Hate the government, but like some of the people.
2. Want the benefits offered in this country.
3. Political oppression elsewhere.
4. Money.
5. Opportunity.
6. Hate exploitation of labor by U.S. Companies
7. Hate western influence on other societies
8. Americans are viewed loud, rude, braggarts, etc.
9. Others are jealous of what we have.

I agree. My boss is in the process of becoming a legal citizen from Spain and she complains CONSTANTLY about the US. Why bother coming here then? Stay in your own damn country if you hate ours so much.

I agree. But I don't think anyone actually hates this place, it's probably more of a jealously and intimidation being hidden by hatrid.

The numbers you mentioned comprise a small percentage of the world's population. So these people who are applying for immigration to the USA may be the ones who believe that the USA can provide them with a better life. The rest of the world could be the ones who disagree with the policies and actions of the USA.

Freedom of expression for one thing. Another is that the illegals you speak of don't like the US. They simply want to take what we have and send it to their own families. They don't want to think about the legal immigrants they hurt with their carelessness (like my husband). I am born and bred American,( and ethnically mixed, so don't start thinking "white girl"), and I often criticize what I see wrong with America. But it's still the best country all around. If nothing else, the right to speak our minds is the one thing we've got right.

I don't think ppl hate USA, or the American ppl. It's the foreign policy and the government that many don't like.

You will never be able to please all of the people so quit trying, people want in I think that speaks for itself, we have as many problems as any other nation but the opportunities far outnumber the problems for most people.

i believe that economics is the main reason everyone is trying to get into US, Canada, Australia etc...
Canada actually has as many illegals from England as they have from Asia, it's the nature of man since the dawn of time........

For the same reason people who were born and raised here, and are reaping the benefits of citizenship, say the same things. They don't appreciate what they have because they take it for granted. That, and freedom of speech, ignorance, and a desire to make a lot of noise and stir things up to try to take advantage of a very liberal government system. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, as the saying goes.

most of the world hates the united states, and i am telling you this as someone who used to live in another country. they dont like the usa because the us thinks they can just do whatever they like, especially with bush just invading any country he pleases.

you have to consider that the media is biased. yes, fox is conservative, but all the other networks are liberal... we have to look to the BBC or Associated Press for an unbiased opinion. still they are a little biased, but not jaded like the american media. you are either a republican or a dmocrat, we have no plurality, or moderation here.

two, we have not created a friendly situation for most countries in the world. we snub the UN (which we created) every chance we get. there we are all supposed to be equals, but money always talks.

I think they are criticizing the citizens more than the actual country. USA is the best country in the world to live in, however Americans complain about everything and are spoiled brats. (There are exceptions to every rule, however.) But, really, where else can you find the freedom that this country has to offer?

America is a bad country led by some terrible people but the people you are talking about come from even worse countries. There are lots of other people who wouldn't live there even if you paid us.
