How can the Canadian government know I left the country?

Since Canada does not have a departure card like in the US, how can they know I left? And why don't they ask for an address on the landing card anyway in the first place?

They scan your documents at the airport or border crossing.

They don't scan your documents when you leave but they do spy on you by working with other border agencies. For example, I know they work with the US border services.
