How come you only hear the anti-illegal bunch talk about Mexicans?

I answer this question on a regular basis in my prison classroom; they believe like you that the Mexicans are the only ones being singled out. It is funny to hear the same thing in the "free world."

My answer is always the same... it is not an issue of singling out a specific group; but is it an issue of a common border with many opportunities to sneak across.

The "anti-illegal bunch", as you refer to, only want a "LEGAL" and orderly immigration policy. For a compare and contrast, look at France, they have an open border policy and the French people are (were) demonstrating in the streets over jobs being lost and the loss of guaranteed jobs due to over-immigration. Look at California, many of the government services are over-wrought due to illegal immigration....health services are taking a huge hit in the bottom line due to "unpaid services rendered" and social services are scraping the bottom of their budgets, too.

Is this truly what people want....do we want to open our borders to all and expect nothing in return? I personally, do not have a problem with immigration....we are a country that was formed on immigration and our culture has totally benefited from this; BUT, I also believe in everyone paying their fair share....come to this country legally, make a living LEGALLY, and pay your taxes. Learn to speak English....if I were to move to Mexico City....I would be expected to learn Spanish...that is only common sense.

So to recap...no, the anti-illegal bunch is not stupid, we really don't care if the rest of the world thinks that we are a joke...this does not stop them from asking for financial aid or military help, and lastly, there are more than just Mexicans that are coming into this country illegally....it just so happens that they are the ones that share a border with the US that are coming across in droves. Canadians don't seem to be coming across in droves.

That isn't at all 'all you hear'. That is just all you say you hear when you want to try to characterize as 'racism' concern over failing education and health care services never designed to subsidize an additional 12 to 20 million poor people.

It is a fact that the majority of our illegal immigrants are from Mexico and that one problem is that the huge numbers of people from a single country is leading to balkanization rather than assimilation. However, the vast majority of people opposed to illegal immigration on this site have repeatedly pointed out that their issue is with illegal immigrants of whatever nationality.

We have limits for a reason: to protect our education and other services.

We need to have these limits enforced.

If this was born of racism, we would never have let the numbers slide until there were so many.

We can't afford this.

Eh? Intelligence? I gotta see this....if people are so smart, why don't they fix their own countries? As far as I'm concerned, the whole immigration thing is One Big Racket. How 'smart' is it for voters to tolerate systematic law-breaking? How 'smart' is it to stand by and watch our cities/city officials to be co-opted by all this pro-hispanic stuff? I'll admit, some of the people I've met from mexico are downright brilliant. But, since they're also breaking the LAW in many ways, that's US laws as they apply to most of what goes on in our country, that still doesn't make it right. Also, if that brilliance was applied to things like starting companies and creating jobs in their country, and promoting things like birth control, they wouldn't have as many social problems, and that'd just be amazingly smart. Instead, you're seeing all this collective intelligence applied to systematically
sneaking into our country etc. I don't know what you call that, but some of it really starts to seem like hostile intent to me, and that's why I want to see Congress to take a good hard look at the whole mess, and I want to see the borders enforced.

4. Why is it so wrong for us to want to protect our borders? If an American was shot trying to sneak into say North Korea, people would say well that would be expected. If we shot people illegally sneaking in to our country (God know for what), everyone would be outraged. We are a soverign nation, and have the right to defend our borders.
