My wife was living in the United States under the pretense that she was a child of her parents and her parents were filing for political aslylum from Armenia. We met about 3 years ago and last week on April 23rd, 2009 we got married at the LA county clerks office in Beverly Hills, CA. I have her "A" number. I've checked out www.uscis.gov. I've contacted a lawyer who only quoted my astronomical prices for his glorified form filling fees. To summarize I am confused about where I go next. I would like to somehow alert immigration that she is now the wife of a US citizen and also start the process for obtaining her residency status as I have learned that it requires 3 years as a resident before she is eligible to become a US citizen. Any help you can give on this matter is greatly appreciate.

Figure out WHAT her status is.
Then, download, complete and mail I-485, I-130, I-693, G325A, I-864, payment and supporting documents as detailed in the instructions to these forms, to petition for to adjust her status to a legal permanent resident. |

Even though it is expensive I would suggest you should see a lawyer because if you make any mistake on those forms you will regret not having a lawyer. Good luck. |

I don't really understand this? So did she enter the country legally? If she did, you should be able to adjust her status. I attached a link below to the USCIS website, should get you started. |

I'm a U.S. citizen. My husband of one year is a Canadian citizen. Trust me, you should get a lawyer. I'm not sure I understand what your wife's status was before you married her... legal or illegal. If there's anything that looks "fishy" to ICE, she could be deported, whether you're married or not, and not be able to return to the U.S. for five years.
Our immigration attorney charged $2500 for everything and accompanied us to our interview. There was no way we could have made it through without her.
As an aside, we were married by one of the judges in Beverly Hills. Small world, isn't it? |
