I'm fine with them. It's not their fault they've got a president who's an idiot. My dad's friend married an American immigrant who's a lovely lady and not the stereotypical loudmouthed numpty. In Oldham, the nearest town to where I live, the immigrant population there have cut themselves off from the 'white' population despite initiatives and projects to get them to integrate. I think it's because Asian countries (as in Pakistan and Bangladesh) have a different culture which they want to hold onto, but it comes at the expense of integration - the cause the the Oldham riots. |

They come over here and take our jobs, yadda yadda yadda.
I jest, of course. I've met only one American immigrant and he was a really nice guy. According to Channel Four's 'Dispatches' programme there are around 100,000 Americans living in the UK. I can imagine most of those are working in London for financial institutions. They probably contribute a lot of tax to this country, so fair play to them. |

well as long as they have a job, and pay tax, somewhere to live, don't sponge off the state, have no problem with them at all. |

Fine. They are not so different to us...there are no real cultural differences that will cause problems. |

I like Americans. I am in love with one. That means her coming here to live or me going there if all goes well. |

I think I've only ever met one and that was years ago. She was o.k. I'd prefer Americans to lots of others we get. |

Not really a problem,as they usually come here to work. The problem we have is the lazy scum and their dependants that this Government seems to welcome with open arms. |

You hardly ever come across them. I don't think most people would feel anything, positive or negative about them.
I'm sure you could find some people who would object, but then you can always find someone who'll object to anything! |

I cannot tell just by looking at someone whether he/she is American or not. If they come over lawfully they will always be welcome . If the decide to ignore our laws then they should be treated in the same way as I would if I went over there and ignored their Laws. |

People in the UK are only concerned about immigration when it is not white and does not speak English. Also, considering a lot of American culture is grafted onto the UK psyche, we actually quite like Americans. |

It comes done to cultural integration.
I am a citizen of both but because of life I appear to be an American. That is all fine because in my heart and in life I am still able to be english and american at the same time. This is because both cultures may be a bit different but in the end they are the same.
I took my straight up born in america wife to the UK not long ago. Even she asked me what was up with so many immigrants walking the streets. |

More please.
Better than those blasted Canadians, always coming here, burning our crops.
I have met one American - and one Canadian (a teacher who I initially thought was Irish) and both were nice people. I think it's flattering that some (North) Americans (that includes Canadians) are choosing to live here. I thought you didn't like our weather... |

Personally, i don't care - i don't stick my nose in anyone elses business.
However, judging from the majority of British people, all they want is people who are willing to contribute to the economy and integrate successfully into our society.
In basic terms, they don't want scroungers or people who are unwilling to integrate fully into the community - ghettos can pose a problem in the UK and create racial tension as has been proven in the past and STILL in the present.
I just think people are going to do what they are going to do anyway but ideally, the statement above, is what most Briitsh people would like to see - a more integrated society and less scroungers. |

What? People from the US are moving to the UK? That's a new concept to me. None of them probably plan on staying there for good though. Who would settle for Tunbridge Wells when you could live in wide open spaces in the US?
I am Canadian by the way, currently live in England, and am DESPERATE to return home! |

Heya
Im from the uk and to be honest i dont think english people mind american immigrants as long as they work and they dont claim of benefits. Now if you was talking about asians then thats a different story. There is alot of anger towards asians at the moment in england because they come over with their familys and instead of work claim all the benfits english tax payers pay for. This is not all asians some do work and deserve to be over here its just the minority.I thnk overall english like americans :) xxx |
