Your question is asking about "Illegal" immigration. What people are forgetting or trying ignore is that in this country "Legal" immigration is welcomed,and ok. "Illegal immigration should be dealt with like any other crime.
And I don't think it is a matter of free speech, because our rights are reserved for the "legal" citizens of this country. I think it is not very smart to be doing something illegal,
then making it known that you are doing it.

People who are here illegally are breaking the law. There are steps that can be taken to be here legally and they should take them. It may be a difficult process, but as we all know Freedom isn't free, and if you want it bad enough, you should be willing to do what it takes to get it through legal means.

The protests of illegal people in this country bother me. What would happen if child molesters decided to protest the laws against child molesting. We would all say, that's crazy! How can they be "in the wrong" and demand the laws be changed so that they can do what they want. I don't think it is right. The best way to resolve the problem is to make it prohibitive for illegal people to be here, and beneficial for legal immigrants to be here. Our laws are there for a reason, America is not a free for all...and if you want to be a part of its citizenry, then you must follow the laws like the rest of the citizens.

What gets me is all these people using emotionalism and saying that "human rights" are being violated. How is it a violation of human rights to tell people who entered this country illegally, got jobs, and basically are squatters and cheaters that at long last, YOU MUST DO THE RIGHT THING!

I think they do not understand what the definition of "Human Rights" is. They are not being treated inhumanely, they are actually fortunate. Because they are being treated as any other American Citizen who breaks the law. ACTUALLY they are being treated BETTER than any other American Citizen who breaks the law. How many U.S. citizens do you know, can break the law, admit to it, protest about it....and not be punished unless or until congress decides to re-write the law in an effort to be as fair to THEM as possible. Come on! Just because they took low paying jobs and work hard at them, does not mean that they are free to break the law. And if we allow them to do it, then the country they are so eager to live in will cease to be the country it is supposed to be.

If what illegal immigrants want to do is to work, raise families, and live in a free society. Then, follow the LEGAL process to do so, learn the language, and the culture, pay your taxes, and become an American the right way!

Don't break the law and then scream victim! You are not victims. The tax payers who support social programs are victims; the people who migrate to this country and become legal citizens are victims. Illegal immigrants are people who made a "CHOICE" to do the WRONG thing, and think they should be excused or rewarded for that choice. I say WAKE UP; take responsibility for your actions, and GET LEGAL or leave.

Well, it's illegal. And just like any other crime, we shouldn't tolerate it. Not being racist, but alot of illegal immigrants are poor, or have drug/crime issues (after all, if they were rich and clean, they'd probably be here legally ;)

What I propose we do : Make illegal immigration a felony, deport all illegals to their home country. Then, simplify legal immigration as much as possible, so that most people who have something to contribute to our society can actually get in (scientists from other countries, refugees fleeing oppression, ordinary people who want to lead a better life), while those who we don't need/want (criminals, drug lords, people who'll stay on welfare the whole time) stay out.

Mahatma (nice name, btw) : While I agree that immigration is important (and should be encourgaged), there's a proper manner for it. Just allowing anyone to sneak across your border without proper screening is too risky, and creates an unsafe atmosphere)

I think illegal immigration has been going on way too long. Why all of a sudden are we going to try to do something about it when it should have been handled years ago? Now we have about 12 million illegals here and we are just starting to talk about it??? What is up with that?

I can't believe the arrogance of the illegals in Calif. waving there Mexican flags at us. What right do they have to do that anyway? How can they demand rights when they don't have any in the first place?

Any one coming into this country illegally should be treated as a tarriest until we know whom they are what they want if not a tarriest then they go to jail but not to sit there eat up our tax dollars they should be put on a farms like the chain gang this would discourage them from coming over illegally and help the Farmer at the same time

they should make it easier for people who are looking for a better life easier. Here in California it is getting to a point where you HAVE to know Spanish just to get a job because they want someone that will be able to talk to Spanish speakers. I think that if they really want to be Americans that they should be forced to learn English. There are way too many people trying to come in legally but can't because so many people from central and south America are coming here illegally. It is sad that it is hard for me to get a financial aid loans because illegals are getting allot of the loans as well. They say that they pay taxes but how are they paying taxes if they are illegals? think about it? the only Way by kicking illegals out of several states will hurt their economies ids because those states have business that are looking to pay employees very low wages in order to put more money into their pockets

All Americans can embrace freedom, honest hard work and good people. But, the day of free loading should come to an end, no matter what country you come from.

We pay taxes , High taxes, non documented workers pay 0, we pay school tax for the children, and to support free lunches, and food stamps and low income housing, and all of this is taken advantage of by people who DO NOT PAY TAXES. Not Fair !

IF, you want to live here, do so legally, and get a job where taxes are with held, and you are paying your fair share. You now work at jobs that are mostly cash pay, good for you, BAD for those of us paying the taxes.

If you want a better life for your family, then go through the proper channels and play it like it should be played.

This isn't just a Mexican issue, it is ANYONE who is taking advantage of the system, the welfare for people able to work should also be cut off, this all was designed for the elderly and in firmed, not the lazy and ones with their hands out for a free ride.

Come on people!!! Lets stop being so selfish!!! We are fortunate to live in a rich country why not share it with people who need it. It's not a matter of documented VS. undocumented, it's about helping each other out!
Obviously not everyone has the opportunity to come to this country the legal way, other wise they would be doing it.
Many people have risked their lives attempting to cross the border, they are desperate for a better future, why not give them a chance. Do any of you know what it is like to live in the U.S undocumented? This people suffer tremendous hardships, but still they remain faithful to this country.
Many soldiers fighting in Iraq are immigrants or come from immigrant parents and they are willing to die for this country. Besides, how many of us would really be willing to work the fields for less than minimum wage and expose ourselves to pesticides and risk your children to be born with deformities. I think this and many other reasons have earned them the right to legalize their status.

I think its wrong! They need to go thru the proper channels to become a citizen if they want it badly enough! There are so many people in the USA who need jobs and there r no jobs because people hire illegal immigrants to do the same job cuase they will do the job alot cheaper then a resident will! there are too many people in this world for everyone to live happily. It is bad because you get third world countries with nothing and 1st world countries who don't want to give them anything. I don't blame people wanting to go somewhere with better prospects or at least water! but this isnt the problem.. the problem is there is no equality between countries.

yeah what amw_1993 said, my sister (born and bred in England), had to go on council house w8ing list, then when she got a house they could only give her a loan for furniture, not a grant, but immigrants were having houses built and fully furnished for them free of charge. It's disgraceful.

anyone who can come to this country with nothing more but there dream of living a better life, and who holds the pain of past hunger pain, neglect and struggles, leave thier familys, friends, adn sometimes thier children just to live a better life should be seen in this society as heroes,... not illegal immigrants.

Everyone deserves a chance (not just cubans),.. and in the end, when we lay our selves down for an eternal sleep we will all realize that we have all been nothing more than just human!

I feel that we need to regulate immigration and punish the illegal immigrant, but we also should require immigrants to "speak and read English in at least a functional manner. Also we should use our dollars to encourage behavior that we want. I have left stores and not purchased items when I couldn't understand the clerk. I also avoid purchasing products with multi-lingual packaging. When my ancestors got here, they learned English. Other people can too.

Mahatma and LuvBug have missed your point. Personally I'm totally supportive of immigration. There are places in the world that have prospects of a better life for some people and people should be free to immigrate to take advantage of these prospects. However, it should be done in a legal way. Your question deals with illegal immigration. The key word here is illegal! It's illegal - against the law. Laws that the U.S. does not enforce. Three points:

- We can't afford as a nation to accept every person that wishes to come to here. If we did then the U.S. would be in very poor shape - boardering on 3rd world I suspect.

- Laws are laws and should adhered to. If it's illegal you should be exposed to those penalties. We don't look the other way when it comes to drug use, traffic violations, rape, murder...but for illegally entering the country we look the other way. In some states they're issuing driver licenses! Talk about condoning an illegal act. No other law is treated this way.

- People continually cite what happened 100's of years ago as proof that the nation was built on immigration. While true most of our families were subject to immigration laws...unless they came in the 1600's and 1700's. Remember Ellis Island? Millions came through that port. In the 1600's and 1700's many were sent here as a form of self imposed exile due to religous or political persecution. I think drawing parallels between how people entered then and what's going on now with illegal immigration is very flawed.

They pay taxes just like any other worker in the united states. they fill out forms when they get hired, just like you fill out your forms. then when it comes to tax refund time, when u go to H&R Block to get your refund, they dont get anything. so they actually pay alot more than Americans. And what social services agency gives any assistance to illegals? none that ive ever heard of.

so who is it that doesnt pay taxes? the farmworkers? how many teenagers are there that pay taxes when babysitting? shoveling the neighbor's driveway for some extra cash? think about it. what is there more of? teens babysitting, or farmworkers. keep oin mind that not all farms pay cash.

i'm not for illegal immigration. simply put, its illegal. if america is my home, i certainly dont appreciate people breaking into my home. rather than spending thousands of dollars on smugglers and risking death, the smarter ones spend about $400 on an application.
