How do you feel when you see whole family tore apart from Illegal Immigrant Accused of Killing Family in dui?

man accused of causing a fiery wreck that killed a family of three on the East Freeway is in the country illegally, authorities said.

Juan Felix Salinas, 42, voluntarily returned to his home in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, two years ago, officials said. But he returned to the U.S., eventually making his way back to the Houston area.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said Monday they have placed an immigration hold on Salinas but had no other information about his past.

Salinas remained in police custody Monday, charged with three counts of intoxication manslaughter in the deaths of Tenisha Williams, 26; her husband, S.J. Williams; and her son, Xavier Brown, 2. His bail has been set at $90,000 — $30,000 for each death.

Houston police said Salinas was speeding and rapidly changing lanes about 8:30 p.m. Saturday when he rear-ended a Toyota Corolla in the 8700 block of Interstate 10.

The Toyota caught fire and eventually was engulfed in flames. The family was pronounced dead at the scene.

Salinas, who suffered minor injuries in the wreck, had a blood-alcohol level of .24 — three times the .08 legal limit for intoxication in Texas.

When the van slammed into the Toyota, Salinas had been free on bond from a March 31 family violence incident in Jacinto City.

The case remains open, authorities said.

On Saturday, bystanders struggled to save the young family. Some used hand-held fire extinguishers to hold back the flames while others attempted to pry open the doors.

Felinda Williams said she was grateful to everyone who tried to save her daughter, grandson and son-in-law.

"At least somebody cared enough," a grieving Williams said Monday. "They put themselves in danger trying to help them."

Williams said she will closely follow the case against Salinas as it progresses.

"When he's in court, I'm going to be in court," she said. "He tore a whole family apart."

Don't you just love it when you get a ridiculous response saying "these crimes are committed by Americans as well!" Yeah? And duh! Whats your point with that logic???? But we're supossed to feel more pity for illegal immigrant families that are torn apart when caught here? At least they are safe and in one piece when they return to their countries. Death victims of illegal immigrants don't have such luck.

I believe in an eye for an eye...no matter what ethnic background, what race, what color, illegal, legal. When you murder anybody whether you are drunk or sober, the penalty should fit the crime. If you take a life, you give your life--execute him and be done with it and stop with the bleeding heart sympathy crap.

The idiotic process of holding a felon on death row should be eliminated also. They will never be able to return to a normal life and society doesn't want them back on the streets. So, what are we holding onto these animals for? Set a cap on the time limit for the appeal process so lawyers aren't allowed to hold these inmates on death row for 20+ years, get the appeal done and if they are still found guilty, execute. If the laws won't tame these felons, put some muscle into the laws with the use of capital punishment.

Why didn't they put him on death row? He killed three people with his selfishness to be here illegally and was drunk to top it off. He broke five major laws and went back to Mexico for a while and ended up back here without a slap on the hand. If a citizen did what he did, think of the massacre the rest of his/her life would be.

Why can no one seem to get the fact that the illegals, being here illegally, killing or raping or vehicular homicide,etc. is an extra punch in the face of all Americans who want these free loading, rabble rousing, non law abiding, screw the system types out of our nation to start with?! I wonder how his illegal status entered into it. Would it have been less of a crime if he had a green card? Are we to believe that those with a green card or who are citizens are less likely to drive drunk that are others?

A tragedy for sure. But are you trying to say that if illegals were not here there would be no tragedies such as this. Or only American citizens have the right to drive drunk and kill innocent people. Maybe the message should be drunk driving is bad no matter who does it.

Ok, that's not good. but you can't make it seem as if because someone has an "illegal" status behind their back, in this country, doesn't make them a person who is more likely to commit a crime such as murder, or drunk driving.

I read this in the news yesterday, but did not see the part about the driver being an illegal immigrant. His citizen status doesn't really make a difference when he is drinking and driving and hurts someone. It was the irresponsible driving that caused the accident -not the citizen status. On the flip side, had he not been able to enter the country illegally, he never would have been here to cause that accident. I'm sure the family of the victims wish he had never been allowed back into the country. But keep in mind that drunk driving is not considered a direct result of illegal immigration.

daydreamer, you obviously didn't read the link this is about immigrants being targeted and having crimes being committed against them because they are immigrants and for not another reason. They were raped and murdered for a few bucks in Tifton, Georgia.

Also, you don't know that the person would still be alive if the immigrant were not here no one dies before their time

It sounds like it would be a tragedy, but I don't believe a word of it. People have cried wolf on this too many times, in an attempt to demonize a group of largely harmless people. For the sake of the family you've described, I hope this is another one of those.
