My wife is 100% hispanic, but she was born in the US, and has a 100% white stepfather since birth.
When we go out, we sometimes encounter Mexican's who want to talk to her, in spanish, to ask for directions and such.....but she doesn't know spanish at all...so they give her an attitude and dirty looks...like she has betrayed them or something.
Then we sometimes encounter white people at various businesses, who assume that she doesn't speak english, beacause she looks spanish.. so they pass us off to a spanish speaking employee by default.
It's kind of funny, but mostly annoying....for her anyway. |

I like to see myself as American.. I dont need to put a hyphen in there...
I see those of you that put those pesky little things in, as less than American..
Why do you need a hyphen? Extra points on an ACT or SAT?? Preferential treatment for a job?? Lower cost for college?? Why?
Do you need to feel unique?
Point is... If you dont want to be looked at differently.... Stop trying to be looked at differently... |

me being mexican i see those born here of mexican descendants are just americans, sorry guys but you're americans, and i would say stop the "mexican american" thing because if you were born here you're by default american, otherwise go to mexico and become a mexican citizen which i doubt you would ever want to do, let's be realistic ok? now the way white or anglos see us hispanics is a different subject which i will not comment. |

eh.. HONESTLY if you look Mexican I just assume u r Mexican.
A lot of Mexican are Mexican because even though their parents arent they were born here..
but they way I see it a mexican and a mexican make a mexican!!
Although TECHNICALLY they are Americans. Because they were born in America
It's just my opinion |
