How does one become a UK Citizen?

Well she cant become a UK citizen straight away. She will have to go through the system. That is Coming here on a work permit, living here for 5 years, applying for permanent residence, waiting one year on the permanent residence, then applying for a citizenship exam. Then going to a citizenship ceremony. Its a long process, but if you really want to live in this country, thats the way it is. If youre woking, time will fly. Good Luck.

After she gets her degree she can apply to the Health service for work and they will arrange a work permit via the U.K Home Office for her to work in England, then if she meets a nice guy and gets Married, after a period of four years she gets a Visa to stay indefinitely and then after a few more years she can apply for U.K citizenship and she will have to swear on oath to be a "good British Citizen" and loyal to Queen and country and I am not joking either!

She should apply to the British consulate in the USA and they will give her the necessary forms to fill in and she will probably have to have two photographs, birth certificate and her American passport. Work and "love"? or live? lol
I think she might have to have a "Students" visa to begin with but after five years residency she might be able to become a citizen.Laws have changed in recent years so you would have to check it all out.

To be a UK citizen you must have lived in the UK continuously for six years with permanent residence staus for at least the last of the six years. To acquire permanent residence status you would either have to have held a work permit for five years or been a student for ten years.

As has been mentioned, the process is complicated and difficult.

To be honest it is nearly impossible to become a UK citizen. You may get some type of permit to study here or get temporary employment while you are being considered for deportation but that's about it these days. Try Australia or Ireland.

To become a citizen however, your friend will have to live here for 5 years before completing a citizenship course and passing a 'Living In The UK' test, visit The Home Office website, they have all the information in the IND section.

I was admitted to hospital 2 weeks ago, out of the 7 people who assisted me during my short visit, only 1 was British and that was the porter who pushed my bed from A&E to the ward. Says alot for these bigots who don't want more foreign professionals here doesn't it.

I assume it will be the same criteria as the u.s. The u.k. needs professionals who will add to this countries wealth and health. She should have no problem apart from maybe having to work to fund her studies, or go the way most students do 20,000 gbp. in debt. iether that or work in a stuffy bar all night just to eat, and be tired the next day at your class. p.s. not much love over hear tho/ u.k. is an amature yank land. try morocco. They need you most. But, once yer in here, keep your head down, and unless, like I did in the u.s. never get ill....they will not know you are here.

Or, given the field of work - studying here (very expensive to do though!) should set her up nicely to aplly and be accepted as a citizen.
