How does one move to another country?

Depends on why you're going, you may need a visa to get into the country depending on your reason and the country. I'd recommend looking at the country's website. There may be other restrictions based on your visa (like having a job or a place to live pre-arranged).

If you're going for school or work, you can probably get lots of info from your school or workplace. If you're moving for the hell of it, it's probably a good idea to do what you can to prepare for the culture shock, whether its practicing a language or reading about the culture (if its England, read The Anglo Files, its illuminating).

In the meantime, maybe see if you're bank/credit card serves that country, and if not, establishing credit with a company that does so to make it easier.

Learn all about the country you are dreaming to live in, the ways by which you can apply or qualify to be an immigrant or if, for example, you want to work there and be sponsored by a company then you would like to know what major industries are there or the wave of future companies that they are targeting. You would then want to know what jobs or in demand professions they currently have or will likely be in demand so you can take it as your major in college.

You would also want to know the cost of living in that country you are targeting to live in, their rate of taxation, their social services and basically their way of life if you find it appealing.

The easiest and cheapest way is to get a job in the US with a company that has offices in Europe, then transfer over with them. My US company transferred me to Denmark for 4 years and they took care of my work visa, moving costs, etc.

I then applied to come to the UK on my own under the Tier 1 visa, which now requires you to have at least a Masters degree. It does not requie company sponsorship - you can come on your own and freely look for work when you arrive.

Well, the cost and hassle of having to move things will probably mean that you'll arrive with just your luggage, and you'll have to make do with that. You don't want to try and ship a bunch of stuff.

Then, you'll have to have a job lined up. Some countries won't let you move in unless you show that you can support yourself. And of course, you'll need enough money to rent a place which probably means you'll need several times the monthly rent (first, last and a security deposit), and you'll need money to get yourself started - towels, kitchen utensils, pictures, drapes etc.. So, you'll have to really calculate how much you'll need and plan on "emergencies".

But, other than that, it's just like taking a plane ride. You leave America and you arrive and your new life starts somewhere else. But you'll really have to work out the details of what the country requires you to do. You won't be a citizen so you might have to constantly renew you visa, and that will become a hassle. Fortunately, with the internet, you'll be able to do a lot of research ahead of time.
