I came to U.S. with a student visa and I got married to a U.S. citizen a few months ago. With that student visa, I was able to get a social security card with restrictions to work though. However, now that I am sending my papers as soon as possible, I don't know if I should submit all the forms with my maiden name or married last name. I have not change my last name in social security office. I tried but they told me it didn't go through and I will hear an an explanation to what happened in 6 weeks(no guarantee the last name change has been accepted)... I cant wait that long, i need to send them before march is over. Tips appreciated ! Thank you soo much :)

I don't think you can change your last name at social security office until they granted your green card since your status does not change yet, you marry citizen, does not mean you got permanent resident automatically, since you don't need to submit with your forms, you need only marriage certificate, forms (put your maiden where the form ask) otherwise married last name, interview with INS, and you will keep the same social number. |

You can change SSN name after you get green card.
Make sure you mail I-130, G-352a (your US citizen spouse, I-864 and I-485, I-765, I-131, I-693, G-352a (yours) along with all other together.

I think you have to be a legal citizen to be able to change your name with the ss office, since you have a student visa you will have to file with your (single) last name and when you get the card and become US citizen you can change all your names if you want! |
