How easy is it for someone to get a visit visa to the United States from India?

This summer, my sister is getting married. She is really close to my uncle's family who she spent many summers with. She wants our uncle and his family to come to the United States from India on a Visit Visa this summer for them to attend the wedding. Is it easy for the family to come or will they get denied? And how long of a visa would they have?

They will have to prove that they have a return ticket back to India and be able to meet the American criteria when applying for visa. |

Visitors visas are two types.. First one is Multiple entry visitor visa ( for 10 years ) and the second one is one time entry. The length of stay is determined by the immigration officer at the port of entry. The max number of days to stay per visit is 6 months. Mosty cases they allow them to stay for 4 to 6 months
Usually, it is not a big deal to get a visitors visa if they are older than 50 years and enough reason to go back to their original country. It is big harder for the younger ones. Check www.path2USA.com for more information. |

The burden of proof is on each applicant to show he/she will return to his/her own country after the visit. US law requires the consular officers to treat each applicant as an immigrant until this burden of proof is met.
If your uncle's family has significant property, good jobs and good income it will go a long way toward proving they'll return to India. If they are relatively poor, with a poor or unreliable source of income, they have hard time getting visas.
The actual amount of time they'll be granted will be determined by the CBP Officer, at the port of entry, at the time of entry. |
