How hard would be for a Spaniard to get used to Canada?

How hard would be for a Spaniard to get used to Canada?

Canada just seems to be one of those places where everything is right, and after living in Eastern Europe for the last past three years I would like to be moving there in a near future. I've heard that it is a very open-minded country but anyways it is quite different from Europe. Do you know any Spaniards that live there? How do they get along with the weather and the customs? Are we well seen by the community?

Thanks in advance!

Just in case for if it's unclear: Spaniard from Spain, Europe. We don't need visa to visit your country and we are part of the European Union!

Not planning to get rich in your country, just to live somewhere else for some time!

You will need to apply for immigration and that can take years.

However, Canada is possibly the most open minded country in the world. Nearly everyone is an immigrant or descended from immigrants and encouraged to keep their own culture alive. We have efficient heating for the winter, air conditioning for the summer and sets of clothes for the seasons.

The only time that it will matter that you are Spanish would be Canada Day when people sometimes dress or cook in their own tradition at street parties and parades.

Then they sing Oh Canada and cheer...

Edit: Canada isn't part of the EU.

I erased my answer, damn. Canadian customs is much better than the states, Toronto is full of immigrants. Bright foreigners go to school in the US get kicked out when they graduate and then move to Canada, which actually allows you to live and work there without having citizenship as a "permanent resident." I don't know any spaniards personally.

You would probly hate the weather, but you'll deal with it eventually. Get a lightbox so you don't get SAD or something.

Canada is much more liberal than the states, if you want a detailed idea of what their citizens think compared to Americans check out this site:

Take the survey to find out how canadian you are.

If you want a really liberal country, I think the Netherlands are more so, but I don't think they speak english.

This idea that Canada has wide open borders and is the land of plenty for absolutely everyone is a complete myth.

We're in the midst of a terrible and deepening recession and so any jobs that are actually out there - what few there are - will go to Canadian citizens and not immigrants. Sorry, but that's the way it is here and everywhere else.

My advice? Stay put for the time being. I see that you are looking to immigrate here, "...in the near future...". Well, given the condition of our economy, "near future" better not mean anything less than about 5-8 years because that's roughly how long it'll take for this global economic mess to be straightened out. Take this time to get as much education as possible. That way, when conditions are better here, your chances of successfully immigrating would be a lot better.

For now? Forget it. Sorry - that's the way it is.
