How hard would it be for an educated 26 year old Irishman to get a year long working Visa for the USA?

I currently hold a Masters in HR, am currently in employment in Ireland but would like to give the states a go.
Anyone in the know that could tell me how to go about getting a working visa for a year. I ve been in the states over 5 times and have never outstayed my 90 Day Waiver Visa, so there no blemish on my record.

Stay put my friend, the job market is pretty bleak in the US right now. But to answer your questions, these are the steps that you can follow:
1. find a company in the U.S. that hires you for your special skills (being Irish does not count!)
2. The company then files a pettition with the Labor Deparment that your skills are detrimental to thier day to day operation. If approved,
3. They then advertise for 3 months in a newspaper to fill that position with an American. If no one shows, you are it! you can get a what is called a third preference visa. Other options:
* Find a good looking American girl and mary her!
* find a good immigration lawyer
* Stay in Ireland, enjoy your job, grow at it and enjoy your life. Come to US often for a short visit. Remember, the grass is not always greener at the other side of the fennce.

Should be easier for an Irishman to get a job in US than other nationalities, however taking into account the fact that the US economy is in tatters I would say thats even quite slim.
It would help if you knew people there - I traveled the US with an Irish guy and he had no problems getting jobs in whatever city he was in and ended up staying there - mind you that was 2004 and this is now. |
