Why is there a green card and what is the use of it for the US?

The actual aim of it is diversity. Only countries who do not have a high number of immigrant applications are allowed to apply and those countries are reviewed annually.
All it does is give them the opportunity to apply for a green card, not an actual card (although a visa number is immediately available). They still have to meet all the criteria to qualify.

It's a tool used by politicians to help their corporate buddies keep the wage scales low. Many industries haven't raised the wage cap in 20 years. But the cost of living is still going up. |

They don't really achieve green cards. They achieve one the option to apply for a green card.. and even if you win, you still have to pay them a whole lot of money and go through a long process once you moved.
How is it useful? They make a lot of money. a lot. |

It is not. The US should move away from a system of letting anyone without qualifications emigrate to the US to one in which only those who can contribute can come in. This would also exclude family members without qualifications. |

To make immigration more equal.
There are a lot of Chinese immigrants - so Chinese can't participate the Green Card Lottery, but there are not much Israeli immigrats so the US want to make it more equal by letting 100 Israelis a year get a Green Card and immigrate to the US |

It isn't useful. It is to promote hope for immigrants. I just want to win the lottery so that I can buy a condo in Mexico and go where the mexicans aren't. In mexico. |
