How long does it take to receive a receipt notice for I-130 application?

The check for I-130 was encashed last Jan. 23. I made a mistake of sending the I-485 to a different lockbox. Now I am waiting for the NOA or receipt notice that I already filed my I-130 so I can proceed with my I-485. How long does it usually take? Please give me your inputs, I am getting worried because I should have submitted I-130 along with my I-485. Maybe, that should have been faster.

It shouldn't take any longer than 4 weeks. So it should be arriving any day now.
If it doesn't arrive by March, you can get the receipt number by looking at the back of the cashed check. The receipt will begin with MSC. Then, go to the CIS INFOPASS site and make an appointment at your local district office. You may be able to get some information out of them as well as documentation to file with the I-485 to verify the case is pending. |

If you didn't mail I-485 together with I-130, now you have wait until your I-130 gets approved to send I-485. |

In my experience I received notification from the National Visa Center approximately one year after submitting the I-130. I don't know if that processing time is still current. If you think there's a problem, I would consult with an immigration attorney. You can get a consultation for under $100 in some cases, and it is well worth it if you have any doubts. |
