How long does it take to sponsor your divorced sister and divorced mother to come live in the US?
Find answers to your legal question.

How long does it take to sponsor your divorced sister and divorced mother to come live in the US?

I am a US Citizen and would like to sponsor my divorced sister and her 10 year old child and our divorced mother to come to live in the US. I understand you have to file separate I-130 forms for every person whom you intend to sponsor. I also understand that my sister falls under category 4 priority whereas my mother falls under category 1. What should I do? Should I sponsor my mother first and then have my mother sponsor our sister and her son, once my mother becomes a citizen or should I sponsor both my mother and sister at the same time. What would be faster? What are the average processing times if they live in Europe? Any professional answer is appreciated! Thank you!!!!!

Well, you would have to file 2 petitions, one for mom, and one for your sister and her child. Your mother's petition would be an IR-5, but that would be valid immediately. You should go ahead and file both, as there will be very little savings in processing time by waiting for your mother to file, even though she could file after she gets her green card, she doesn't have to wait to become a citizen. Since your sister isn't married now, your mother can file for her in the F2b category, but those petitions take over 8 years for most countries to become valid. If she waits until she becomes a citizen, 5 years from the time she gets her green card status at a minimum, that petition would be an F1 and that would take almost 7 years from the time it's filed, or more than 12 years. When you factore in the processing time for your mother's petition as well, you can see you aren't really gaining anything by waiting for her to file.

Take your choice. For 2nd pref siblings the priority date is 3-1-98.
If you mother immigrates and files for the unmarried daughter the
priority date is 6-22-00. A long waiting list either way.

USA!
Add them to the welfare ranks? Just great
