It is absolutely ridiculous. I'm sure greasy tony will be on here saying that americans won't pick tomatoes. And to the first poster... even if it is 3% of the 12 million illegals, thats still 360K jobs that americans don't have because they are already filled. That is math that even you can do.

Ok, I feel that we ned to get rid (Deport) of ALL people liveing here in the US illegaly!!! NOT just the Mexcicans but any other people from other country's that are here illegal. (Sorry for the misspelling). IF the people want to stay here then they need to go through the procces just like everyone else that is liveing here Legally. All they are doing right now is hurting our country finacialy. Welfare goes up, more joblless, and the Crime rate also goes up as the people either with out a job turn to a life of crime to just get by or the people that are here illegal could be be crimallies already & just up doing the same things here in our country.

I quit being mad about this situation long ago. I am now proactive and am working with others to change it. If ALL americans were involved we wouldn't have the problem. That being said, there is a myth, which most pro immigration people and politicians like insane mcain believe, that is very easily dispelled. The myth is that illegals only do jobs americans won't. I have worked in the construction industry for 15 years in the state of arizona. From 1993 to 2000, 99% of construction workers were AMERICANS, with very few illegals onsite. The average wage for those workers was 12 to 15 dollars per hour. That began to change from 2001 to now. Today, if you arrive on a construction site in arizona, 85% of the workers are illegals and 15% are legal americans. The average wage of both is now about 9 dollars per hour. You can't buy food from a truck vendor unless you speak spanish on these sites. Now tell me that illegals only take the jobs americans don't want. Hundreds of thousands of AMERICAN landscapers, construction workers, swimming pool installers, maintenance workers, painters, waiters and waitresses, and on and on, have lost their jobs to lower paid illegals that employers have hired to raise their profits. Employers are free from punishment for this practice. I was recently laid off from my 10 year employer and 3 weeks later an illegal has my job. Yes I have filed a suit but that is not my point. My point is, when the illegals are made legal, they will LEGALLY demand a higher wage, and the previous LEGAL american will still be unemployed. I personally am hoping for high double digit unemployment, with many millions more of americans without jobs, so they will finally get off their asses and fix the problem. Our resposibility as americans is to take care of our own BEFORE we take care of the rest of the world. Its not bigotry, its not hate, its not "I got mine so screw everybody else". It's about a nation destroying it's own people, destroying what makes their people what they are, AMERICANS, to appease a future voter. I have never wished ill will on another person (except terrorists) but I now find myself hoping that the lives of those who support the amnesty push, will become unemployed, uninsured, and on the roles of the diminishing welfare services being drained as we speak. The "American Dream" has now become the "Illegals Dream" and we have noone to blame but ourselves. If you laugh now, I hope your time is coming.

to zaphod: where did you learn math? 3% of 10 = 0.3 3% of 100 = 3. Mexico's unemployment maybe lower, but the percentage of workers who are working for poverty wages are probably far more higher in Mexico. The problem is, people in USA would rather live off of unemployment benefits and welfare, than do the back breaking work for those kinds of wages... so many U.S. companies move jobs to Mexico. I think these are some of the reasons you see the interesting split in the unemployment rates.

and what % are illegal immigrants in mexico? remember that people migrate to those countries just as they migrate to ours. And what about all the illegal americans in mexico working. I know of one personally. If you are going to bring stats like that and try to draw a correlation between employment and immigration, make sure you bring all the facts to the table.

Likewise, you should only worry about these illegals if you are in the same work force as them, which means high school drop out. And if you are a high school drop out, i care not for you and figure if you can't put forth the effort to finish the cake walk that is high school, you are just as useful as a illegal immigrant.

It only makes you mad because you're fooled by percentages...do you know that 3% of 10 is 3 but 3% of 100 is 30? Same percentage...different result. Don't worry, Republicans play those percentage games a lot...DUH!
