As long as their birthrate is so high, there is absolutely no chance. There are two Indias: the developed, educated and wealthy, vs. the impoverished breeders of poverty. When they reduce their population below 400 million by decreasing their birthrate (not by emigrating, which simply enables increasing dysfunctionality), they will find their prosperity.

There are two Indias. The top ten percent, over 100 million people, are as educated, cultured, and cosmopolitan as any in the world. But most of the remaining 90 percent are pretty hopeless. 2020 is way way to early for India as a whole to be considered a developed country.

Only politicians believe so atleast in their election speeches to the gullible masses to garner votes and stay in power. To a general educated citizen,there will be a lot of development in science and technology but that may not help the country to called a developed country.

I don't think so. A more reasonable figure would be something like 2080. But even that is just a guess. There are so many variables involved.

Yes, things are on its track, let us hope so. Someone wrote about poverty and corruption ! Answer of SASKE made me laugh ! He is leaving India and going where ? Ha..ha..! Nowhere ! Is poverty and corruption not there in UK or USA ? And with all these bad things also, we Indians have managed to represent our wealth, power and technology in the whole world ! Have not we ? We have achieved nuclear power, own cryogeinic rocket engine, our own satelites, a very dependable communication system, nano car and a lot of wonders the world already witnessed. Our army is one of the best discplined in world. We almost have everything. And we have achieved all these within a lot of poverty and corruption. Only a bunch of greedy Indians going abroad for more money ! Yes ,i do agree that mindless increasing in population is a hindrance in our path of progress. But definitely we are going to be a developed country very soon. Even before 2020. Thanks.

No way. That's only 11 years and things can't change that quickly.

And as long as so many educated Indians keep leaving India to get higher paying jobs in the US, Middle East and Europe, it's never going to get better. The best and the brightest are needed to invest in new businesses and technology in India and create job opportunities for the hundreds of millions of people living below the poverty line in rural areas as well as urban slums. But that will never happen until the Indian companies, many of whom are making billions of dollars a year, are willing to pay people the same wages as they can make abroad.

Not so long as we continue to have the same political outfits who have no morals,scruples or shame,flipping and flopping every which way for the crumbs of power and all the time plotting to topple an elected government at the drop of a hat.And the best part is they drop the hats themselves.Only when politics of opportunism,casteism,regionalism,
religioninsm,favoritism and a whole lot of other "ism"s are rooted out of
our soil along with terrorism will India start on the road to development.
And that will never happen in our lifetime or that of the next at least
half a dozen generations.Who knows?By then even the newer generation of politicians who would be all chips of the same blocks(given the fact that we have what is called politics of dynasty operating
full swing) may be worse than what we have.

Yes I think India is catching up with the developed world quickly. And some developed countries such as the UK will be classed as underdeveloped by then.
