How many people here dislike the 'Immigration Bill' just because Bush supports it?

I am not crazy about it, but think it is better than anything else we are gonna get. You make a good point. people are going to stay hidden here illegally if they know they will be deported. The only way we can get them to come forward is by offering some path to citizenship. Otherwise, things will remain the way they are and we will have millions of undocumented people in the country.

no i disliked it back when Reagan supported it! we should start to deport first; the criminals, then those that are related, and are harboring criminals, then those that don't want to learn English, then those that just came here yesterday and so on!

I dislike anything other than DEPORTATION and sending them to the back of the line behind LEGAL immigrants.

I don't base my opinions on what anyone else agrees/disagrees with. I use my own education, experiences, and judgement. And, if it happens to be the same, or happens to be different, than Bush's or anyone else's opinion, so be it.

And, for the record, I don't like this latest bill.

Actually although I am rather pro-immigrant, I do not like this bill because it does seem a little too easy going. It seems to lack any real incentive for immigrants to not enter illegally. I am not overly fond of Mr. Bush either, but I definitely dislike this bill because of its own merits, not because he supports it.

You're right...there will NEVER be mass deportations. American big business LOVES illegals and they are the ones with the money...so who cares what anyone else thinks.

Very few are asking for deportation, but we have the right to have a say what our immigration policy is, not illegals that just show up. If we have an employment verification system, really control our borders, drivers licenses should only be issued to those who are hear legally, have hospitals treat all, but require who is going to pay the bill ( I have never been able to just show up in the emergency and not produce any type of ID, whey want my drivers license and proof of insurance) and then verify they really live there. When babies are born the immigration status of the mother should be asked and noted.
If these things and others have been done, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today. We that want to stop illegals are in a no win position. If we asked for proof we are being racist, and if we don't we are being told we knew they were here and did nothing to stop them. If we follow some or all of these rules, after a period of time illegals will go home, and those out of the country will stay. As to breaking up family, when illegals left their families behind when they crossed, why did they not carry on then about their families, so why now it is our problem?

It's a sad commentary that this bill is the best our representatives can come up with.
Mass deportation of some 10 or 12 million illegal aliens is obviously out of the question - especially since they're here because we more or less passively turned a blind eye to the problem for so long.
There has to be a better solution than rewarding the people who illegally entered this country and strapping the honest ones who try to enter legally with so many fees and red tape.
You have to wonder how the legal immigrants who jumped through all of the hoops and paid for the dozens of forms feel about amnesty. Now that would be an interesting survey.

It is a terrible bill. It doesn't just address those here, it vastly increases immigration going forward, and calls itself border security but as a tangible matter HALVES the fence already signed into law...and overwhelmingly VOTED into law just before the last elections.

Oh, it REALLY enhances the government's credibility on border security and enforcement going forward - NOT.

I don't like the bill because i had to pay allot of money for INS to get my family here and allot of BS from them when you are trying to be lawful. I think that it is just another way to lie to us and the bill will have allot of laws that will never be told and they will all get free ride on our tax money.

Why do you think mass deportation is not an option? Logistically, it is quite possible. Veto the bill and wait for the illegals to rally. Have riot police and the National Guard round them up into cattle trucks and send them back acros the border. That is in no way a civil rights violation - THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT CITIZENS HOWEVER THEY ARE CRIMINALS.

Also, at random times and places like at the grocery store, post Department of Homeland Security Agents to spot-check proof of citizenship by checking ID's, and the ones who get busted will be put in shackles and loaded onto cattle trucks and sent home.

Now, I realize that in this way we will NEVER be able to get rid of ALL of them, however we need to do our best to make these CRIMINALS feel unwelcome and downright miserable. We need to spread so much fear among them that is will not be worth the worry to break our laws any longer and remain here unwelcomed.

I think it's great! Bush may not be the smartest and he might make alot of mistakes but he is human. Everyone makes mistakes. I would like to see some of the complainers try and lead a whole entire country and see how well they do.
