No, your years spend in the UK as a student do not count towards your residency requirement. If you are not married to a UK citizen, you need to be living in the UK for a minimum of 5 years under a work visa and paying taxes in order to apply for permanent residency, then a year later can apply for naturalisation as a British citizen |

If you study in Australia for 2 years and can qualify for a permanent visa by having qualifications and experience in an occupation in which we need workers, you can apply for citizenship 2 years after you get your permanent visa: 2 years as a student + 2 years as PR = the 4 years required for citizenship.
Note that a permanent visa is not automatic just because you've studied here. Your occupation must be listed as being in high demand; you must have qualifications and work experience in that occupation; you must pass the points test and you must meet the health and character requirements. 2 years of Australian education earns additional points for the points test and related part time work during your studies counts as work experience, so it will be easier than if you were applying offshore, but you must still qualify in all respects. Depending upon your occupation, the wait for a permanent visa could be a few months or several years, so make sure you understand the visa processing priorities. For information, see:
