Is there a test that can be done before the couple is married to show if one party (the immigrant or the spouse) is entering into the marriage based on fraud? Is it any way one party can test another so they don't end up getting scammed or played?

u can't test before marriage.
grant initial two year visa and let them prove that they stayed 2gether that 2 years and then issue a residency or citizenship |

Not a test. BUT there is something you can do. The two of you need to have a few sessions with an EXPERIENCED counselor who deals with PRE MARITAL counseling. Explain your fears to the counselor in advance (you should have 1 private session, each, before going together).

USCIS estimates over 50% of all marriages between US citizens and foreigners involve some type of fraud.
The US Navy used to keep statistics of marriages between American sailors and foreign spouses. They said that after 10 years the divorce rate was 80%. |

Actually there is something pretty simple that you can do quite easily. Visit your bf/gf's country, and suggest they sponsor your immigration to their country instead of you sponsoring them to the US. Lots of reasons to give: lower cost of living, interesting culture and you're fascinated by it, immigration there is probably much faster & cheaper than to go to US, etc. If they are only after green cards, they tend to disappear very quickly. Good idea to use this one before you get in too deep and get your heart shattered instead of just dinged. |
