It really depends on why you need to establish residency. Universities and colleges have different rules about residency for reduced tuition for example.

If you are looking to get state ID, then normally you need something that shows you live there such as utility bills, rent/lease contract etc.

That is easy you either look on your birth certificate and if it has that raised seal than your a resident of that state of go to your county clerks office the record of vital statistics they will have your original birth records on file.
