OMG! I am sooooo sick of hearing about that topic! i'm glad u brought it up bcause i don't see anything wrong with people wanting to start a new and better life! in fact, i'm glad that people have been coming 2 america! i like 2 learn about new personalities, cultures, and in general just meeting new people who I can talk 2 and get 2 know more about! when this subject comes up, i get so mad bcause every1 i'm around sounds racist cause THEY have a problem with immigrants moving 2 our country. i am so far 4om racist, and sometimes i'm sad 2 say i'm related 2 sum people in my family for the way they talk, which sounds racist. i just want you and everyone 2 know that u need 2 live in the people's shoes and what they go through everyday b4 u can judge every little thing they do! god bless america and EVERYONE in it!!

The answer is Red Indians/Native Americans if they were here first,2nd,3rd what does have to do with affairs of 2008? That period in history is over we cannot live with guilt every day of our lives.Illegals may come here for a better life yet that does entitle them to amnesty,citizenship,drivers license's ability to use fake or stolen documents. The period you speak up no country on earth was advance as they are now and really only the people from back then really know the true answer.Yet back in that time period there was no handouts you either worked or you didn't eat.Nobody collect welfare,food stamps,free medical,subsidize housing.

I'm an american because I was born here. This nonsense about the american indians makes no sense, that was over 100 years ago and its time to move on. I have no problem with legal immigrants, my parents were legal immigrants. Its a disgrace and an insult to the sacrifices that they made to legally enter this country when people demand legalization for people who did not bother to follow the laws of this country and enter illegally. Then these illegals have children with full knowledge that they can be deported at any moment and cry about it.

No one at least me has a problem with "immigrants" just the "illegal" ones who think they are "special" and demand "special" treatment . Like demanding "Instant become an American citizen cards" or 'placing their countries flag above mine" or strutting around saying how we stole country from them and it rightfully belongs to them or demanding we learn their language and pay for there education and welfare. Native American might has been first but they were pushed out period end of story. None of us alive today had anything to do with that and none of us are going to give our land back to them. Slave were brought here against their will be the practice of slavery was world wide and is still used in some countries today.
During the 1860-1890 large numbers of people immigrated to the US from Western and eastern Europe who were more like the American already here.
Today people have a problem with people sneaking into the country to take things with out contributing or assimilating into the American culture. If you want to remain poor then do not learn the language and you will never succeed.
My wife is from Russia so I am pro immigration but I do not support illegal immigration at all. America is a wonderful place to live but you would never know that by a lot of comments about America being a bad place to live but we have never had a max exodus just a mass influx.
New immigrants actually live the American dream that many natives do not know or can appreciate.

REAL Americans are either born or naturalized citizens --- period. You need to look up the definition of "immigrant". An family line does not continue to be "immigrants" ad finitum. That's just completely incorrect usage of the word.

The issue is "illegal" immigration, and most, if not all, of the early settlers immigrated when there was NO law preventing it, and the current "illegals" are violating U.S. law when they enter the U.S. (which is why they are referred to as "illegals").

The Irish were depicted as monkeys with fangs when they immigrated to America. Note all of the Irish flags we see in the streets during Saint Patrick's day. It's scapegoating. It's much easier for some to blame the different and weakest in our society for our problems.

Your right this country was founded on immigrants, but now with more people trying to come in than there are jobs, it is time to enforce the limits on those coming in. When we as Americans, of all races, cant find work then there is a problem. When a person with a needed skill and a guaranteed job tries to enter the legal way he can and should be aloud to, but sneaking across the border and taking jobs at less than minimum wage hurts those looking for jobs.

Everybody who is in the Americas came here from somewhere else. There would be no illegal immigration if the US didn't want the labor that those people provide. There must be some standard set up by the US govt. that will allow most of the "illegals" to become legal. We cannot physically deport 16 million people. But don't break the laws of this country in any way once you are here, then you are easy to find, and if found, you should be deported.

I don't think the heart of the issue is about people coming here (and those who act that way need to be smacked), but rather an issue that all comes down to money. (Doesn't everything?) Some illegal immigrants take advantage of things meant for citizens that we all have to pay taxes to have...but they aren't paying taxes for it, yet still enjoying it.

Then there are those who went through all the trouble to coming here legally... all the time and paperwork that goes into it, all the waiting for their turn to come... I worked for a women who came here some years ago from Jamaica. It was interesting to hear the point of view from someone who went through getting here legally. And I can tell you, it seems that some who had to wait and go through all that aren't pleased with those that decide to cut in line and not do it legally like they did.

I personally, I have no issue with people coming here, anyone is welcome. But please...at least do it legally. If anything I think just this once we *should* cut a break to those who while illegal ARE paying into taxes etc.

Usually the media or most people DON'T want to see immigration from this perspective. It would be like 'The pot calling the kettle black.'
The U.S has a very 'racist' society. Despite the anti-discrimination laws in the book, and the idea that the U.S is a 'free' and 'fair' country, TOO MANY people in the U.S still think in terms of color. In other countries it's a LOT different. Americans live TOO focused on race, and color. They give in too much into stereotypes.

I'm not saying this is true for all Americans. But it's quite true for a large portion of the country.

Wow i have been reading the answers and have not seen so many varied views. My view is, today American is known as the Land of Oppotunities. Nobody shud be denied their right to migrate and make most of it. However i agree to one of the users here, the illegal migrants shud not be able to enjoy all the rights without paying tax and contributing to the economy. Thats very important. Now about racisim. Yes it is very much prevailent in America unfortunately. I think peoples mindset will have to be changed to curb this problem. The Govt can do its part in it, but its the people who will have to start changing their perspective toward non whites. Its high time we give respect to everyone. We belong to only one race Human race and we shudnt forget that.

Yes its true Native Americans were original residents of this land. They were pushed out and are now outsiders to his very land. British people have ruled the world, and though they were cruel to anyone not british. But they extra cruel to non whites. And that idea has probably stuck with America. What americans dont realise is there are more african, non british white, mexican, south american and asian communities than the british ones. They shud embrace anyone coming here with a dream. illegal immigrants are govts problem. And by insulting them, being cruel to them, treating them bad and being unfair to them people arent bringing about much change. America wont be america without all those immigrants. Dont forget these so called immigrants are providing u cheap labors. Govt can pass a law, any resident wether legal or illegal working in US is liable to pay tax. That way atleast they will contribute to the country.
Curbing racisim completely dosent seem to be happening in near future. Africans are accepted but not totally even tho they have made american what it is. I will say US shud try everything to stop the discrimination. peace out.

Solar Power Socialism built around idea of common cause with the next person might make a dent in this attitude and also stop poverty and Global Warming.

The idea of opening a conduit to The Middle East to educate people on the views of scientists and citizens to contrast to the view of Blood Thirsty Terrorists might help as well.

There should be a phone and internet connection put in place to avert racism and disaster betwwen countries. These also should be put in The Embassies of each country in The World. Then people could be heard. Radios with to control by remote to communicate could be of use a well perhaps connect such so people from over the world can talk to eachother.

The Indians did'nt fight hard enough for their land, and lost it. Pretty simple, this is the same with alot of other nationalities, races and religions. Why should we make the same mistake and just let our country be taken and over run

Though i have never lived in US only visited. But i have heard horror stories from my friends who moved there with their family. Whenever we talked on phone all i heard from them is how much they miss their friends back home. The kids werent too nice and accepting. Kids wud make fun of everything from religion, the country they came from, the clothes wore (though the clothes were bought from stores across USA), to their not fluent english, accent. The kids were really mean to them. They had a hard time studying in USA. Now they have like high paying jobs but the kids who made fun are either working in stores, resturants or malls. The point is, why shud somebody be treated so cruelly based on their whereabouts.
