How would England cope if immigrants (of whatever colour) left it's shores 'overnight'?

It would be disastrous for Britain's culture and economy.
The NHS would collapse and we would have to retrain thousands of doctors and nurses. We would have no Italian, Indian or Chinese restaurants and no kebabs.

We are a nation of immigrants - the French, Romans, Vikings, Saxons have all invaded and there are very few of us who are pure Celts or Picts (there may be a few pockets in Cornwall, Wales and Scotland).

I live in Leicester - a city where 50% of the population is from an ethnic minority (ethnic majority in our case) and we would be completely wiped out. There would be no Divali or Eid celebrations, no Sikh festivals and no colourful and exotic shops to visit.

England would be BORING, insular and stuck in the past if it were not for immigrants. They often get a really raw deal and should be encouraged to come here, not discouraged. They also contribute enormously to our economy:

Probably the same way the USA would handle it; with higher wages and lower crime.

I am pretty sure that the Brits would pay a slightly higher price to have their dry cleaning done but if it means that they will not explode the next time they go to the market they may be willing to pay it.

Our hospitals and clinics that are now full of immigrants, would soon be full again with the British born doctors and nurses who are now graduating into a system who will not employ them. (I'm one of them, believe me its true.)

All the factories/farm jobs/transport/minimum wage jobs, etc etc would again be filled by our home grown people who are unemployed.

Are people really saying that we do not have enough people born in this country who can do these jobs? Grow up.

For any labour shortage that is made by immigrants leaving, we could force the jobless jeremy kyle watching chavs to do them. Large workforce and less spent on benefits. Bonus. Plus the large gap that will be left by immigrants will be filled up anyway by the left wing liberal idiots with non jobs like 'facilitators' and 'ethnic coordinators' who suddenly need to get a real job.

Prisons would not be overcrowded anymore, and there wouldn't be a mass shortage in housing, which would stop every piece of greenery being filled with new builds, and also allow people like myself who were born here, to get their own homes at an affordable price.

I think it would be a damn good thing. We have enough home grown talent for this country to thrive, and its about time we looked after ourselves.

Sounds like bliss.
Crime would fall (fewer people in the country = less crime), Space would be freed up in prisons as th immigrants inside the prisons would have gone and house prices would come tumbling down. The reason they are so high is because there arent enough houses to go around. Demand is high so so are the prices.
Jobs would be available as immigrants would have vacated them. Bring it on!

It is not a matter of "coping" we would be better off.

We coped on WW2 and we would now actually be better off with cheaper property prices a greener smaller economy and less congestion and pollution caused by millions of extra people.

These people did come overnight, 59 years IS overnight to an historic land like the UK which is 1000s of years old (OK it had different names and was divided once) but what is now called the UK is the centre of western civilisation. The immigrants need the UK not the other way around.

I am frankly amused some are suggesting that the most successful , technologically advanced and best organised country on earth the UK , cannot "cope" without people from loser failed countries?

It seems we have imported comedians and in big numbers.

I'm guessing you are one of those people that believe the clap trap the government spews out 'our country couldn't survive blah blah blah', get a grip we were the most successful country in the world before the thousands of immigrants arrived so i am sure we can do without them.

Remember most of them are doing jobs the brits arent willing to do, another lie they just do it cheaper.

I think that immigration is needed and helps a country to continue to develop. However there are lots of people who are living in Britain that are here for the free ride and these people should really go.

If you are not including British nationals then I think we would be fine.

Not every Asia is from Indian or Pakistan, although they still seem to want to be, and some were even born here!! Not every black comes from Africa or the Caribbean.

The NHS would be fine as most doctors are British born, there would be a large recruitment drive on for Doctors and Nurses but again most are British Nationals. The NHS already spends 25% of there budget on translators and printing information in 50 languages, this money could be spent on much better things. Plus the waiting lists would go down.

Housing costs would fall since there would be a large stock of housing and this would mean the average person would not need 10x their salary in a mortgage.

Crime would also lower, less people to commit the crime and the police have officially stated that asylum seeker bring crime waves with them.

Councils spend up to a quarter of there budget on translating documents and interpreters, this money could be used to improve public systems or just lower the council tax.

Better education, less pupil teacher numbers means the teacher could spend more time helping individual pupils. English would be the only language spoken in schools so the school budget would be wasted on translating everything into 50 languages.

To answers your 1948 as overnight comment, asylum seekers do get moved to new location and the can be a few thousand in a matter of weeks. 5000 in two weeks is close enough to overnight.

nobody has a problem with immigrants who come here to work and benefit the country, what they are sick off is the ones who come here for self gain through crime or fraud.
i for one dont believe these people should just walk into this country and expect handouts straight away, maybe if we were like australia with rules and regulations we could encourage the genuine immigrants to come here and work and live and deter the criminals and fraudsters.
and yes i do believe they are turning up in large numbers now so i can understand the statement of overnight as port and coastal areas are usually the first ones to get flooded with these people.

Nothing much would change, sure a few job positions would need to be taken over but there wouldn't be much chaos like some posters are making wild predictions about. This country is not being propped up by the immigrants like some people are making it out to be, it would just mean that the indigenous population would have to work harder and be more efficient with the extra work.

Crazy things like "the NHS or public transport would collapse" etc, etc is a typical slanted leftie biased, and basically wrong view. And those who say this place would be dull, my advice is get out and meet some more people, you're generalizing that all British (non-immigrant) persons are dull, that says more about you than it does the indigenous population.

Think about it, would society really come to a stand-still if the immigrants, legal or illegal left? I don't think so. There would have to be some dramatic overhaul of the Employment service though to get some of the lifers off the dole. At least the indigenous population, or more so the white man/woman won't be overlooked by their skin colour because a company has a ethnic quota to fill.

we'd have alot more stable country the immigrants are sometimes in important roles for example nursing but i personally think the children of this country would be able and willing to train to do these jobs which would cut unemployment i feel we spend to much time and money in this country bowing down to these people why should people come to this country and get nhs treatment and education etc when we could spend this money looking after our own i was in the forces and served in kosovo i then got married and pregnant with my first child so decided to leave the forces my husband has worked from the age of 16 yet when we applied for a council house just until we got sorted we got nowhere yet these people come here and get everything from the beginning and yes some are a valued part of the community but others certainly aren't i could carry on all day about this subject its about time we stopped it all now and start investing are time and money back into this country and the british people and their health education and well being their are to many do gooders well what do they think of the people dying of cancer where the nhs can't fund their drugs and in the meantime the nhs is paying for leaflets in different languages and interpreters no i am sorry to those who don't agree with me but charity begins at home shut the gates now before this country gets more f@@@@@ than it already is

The native Brits would have to learn to read and write properly and then they could get a job that the immigrants have vacated.
It suprises me how immigrants learn passable English but the natives are more or less illiterate.

I think England would not be able to cope.

All those people on the dole mentioned by a previous poster above who would be roped in to fill in the work the immigrants once did would cause the country to collapse due to the inordinate amounts of "f ag breaks" they would require - that's if they turned up to work at all. After all, there's a reason why a lot of those people are on the dole!

Not to mention the fact that so many English can't even read these days - how are they supposed to prop up the country?!
