Human Rights, Canada, Britain, UK, Crime - Can a British Citizen Apply For Refugee Status in Canada?

Human Rights, Canada, Britain, UK, Crime - Can a British Citizen Apply For Refugee Status in Canada?

As a British citizen I am disgusted with the way much of our anti-terrorism legislation (most of it being post-2005) is being manipulated and used to basically control and put down our population in ways reminiscent of a certain fascist state circa 1930's-1945.

This place is seriously becoming like George Orwell's '1984'. People are no longer even allowed to make any form of protest within 'X' Km's of Parliament, or sites which the Government deem 'sensitive' (yeah sure, everything is 'National Security' these days). You are no longer allowed to take photographic or video evidence of policemen (yes - it IS illegal - probably because they don't want peaceful protester's filming the police killing people whilst donning Riot gear). The right to privacy has been eroded to such an extent that if you text your friend to meet up for a drink, somebody will know. I do not have an issue with the police, nor the enforcement of sensible legislation which is aimed at preserving the moral integrity of society, and for protecting peoples lives from threats, however the situation is getting way beyond a joke.

The latest farce is the logging of personal information contained in communications such as e-mails and phone calls, and whilst this information is held by private companies, realistically it is easily available to the government any time they like (there is no difference between this, and they keeping it themselves on servers). The excuse? - terrorists use phones and e-mail. Hmmm, well correct me if I am wrong, but don't they also eat food? So therefore every store which sells food goods must also compile a database of what food they sold, and who to.

I am not a hippie, or some tree-hugging activist. I am a simple everyday person who has become disillusioned with the totalitarian system unfolding in front of me, and realising that there is such apathy among the general population towards these developments is really disheartening and sad. (In France for example, people stand up for their rights and will riot if they do not get what they expect!!).

The FACT is that elements of these various legislation are actually contrary to the UN Convention of Human Rights. Surely this is grounds for applying for refugee status???

Whilst capable of applying for Canadian citizenship under the skilled workers category, I was wondering if anybody knew if there would be any legal recourse for me to apply for Canadian citizenship through the refugee route. I feel this would be closer to the point, as this country is being made un-liveable, and may also prove a point (a form of protest), if enough people decide to do it.

I realise that I have not included any sources as a basis for my argument, simply because having spent so long writing this I did not then fancy going through and picking out non-biased and factual literature to show to you all, however, I can do this if the number/quality of responses warrant me to do so.

All serious responses appreciated.

Regards, and thanks in advance,

A bee in the hive.

NO you will NOT qualify as a refugee because your life is not in any danger from war or politics. YOU need to prove that YOUR life is in imminent danger of being terminated (killed) - and in UK that just does not happen. UK is not in a civil war state.

While I do agree with you that UK is fast becoming a facist state (parents not even allowed to hug and kiss their kids in public) That is NOT a valid reason to apply for refugee status. Such RIDICULOUS rules. WHO makes up these STUPID rules? George Brown? He's worse that Tony ever was.

You can apply as a skilled worker though.

Here are the details.

You have two choices

1 - federal skilled worker

You need to have at least 1 years work experience in your chosen field before you can apply. 4 years is better - gives you more points.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp

You must meet the following minimum requirements to apply as a skilled worker:

You must have at least one continuous year of full-time, paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time [1 year full time - 2 years part time]. continuous employment. Your work experience must be Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC).
You must have had this experience within the last 10 years.

If you have work experience and skills for any of the following occupations, then your application will be fasttracked and processed faster than other applicants.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp#list
occupations in demand

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/assess/index.asp
assessment test - you must get 67 points to qualify.

You will need at least $10,000 saved up - more if you have family - before you apply as you will be required to show this proof that you have this money when you apply.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/02a-skilled-fed.asp

2 - provincial nominee.

If you speak french then you can apply for Quebec,. IF you do NOT speak french, then apply for another province (Ontario, BC or Alberta are the best) .

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/provincial/index.asp
provincial nominees

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/quebec/index.asp
Quebec selected skilled worker.

If you do emigrate under the provincial nominee program, you are required to stay in that province for (either) 2 or 3 years before you can leave. You must fulfill all other requirements as stated above.

Provincial nominee programs can be processed faster than the federal program.

So what you're saying is, because the government have encouraged terrorists to migrate to this country (then imposed surveillance on us all) , you're planning to leave.

Here's an idea. How about we kick the terrorists, and their supporters out, and keep the country for ourselves?

Regardless of your personal opinions, for what u have full right to have any as far as they are not illegal, United Kingdom is a country where human rights are taken very seriously.

Canada will not offer any help through refugee route unless u can prove that ur life is at risk in UK from UK government & living in UK is not an option for you. Even in that case, since being an EU citizen Canada may refuse to entertain ur application directing you towards other EU countries where u don't have any restrictions to live.

I'd suggest taking legal route, that is skilled worker's immigration.

Good luck.

Whilst I agree with you (I've got my eyes on New Zealand), I think that the Canadians would ask you if the government is physically torturing you, send you home and have a good laugh!

Anybody can apply, but it won't be granted to you. Further it might affect a subsequent application under the skilled worker class. But if it is important to you to make the point - go for it.

you would need to prove your life is in danger in your country before canada would look at you as a refugee

First of al, a Refugee is classed as a Stateless person, which would not apply to you. The good news is that Jaqui Smith the Home Secretary has axed plans to go ahead with the proposed national database. There you are, Worries over.!!!

Yes u can apply for refugee status. If u r in fear of expressing ur opinions or in fear in were u are living then u can apply. I'm not sure how u apply for refugee status since i learned about in class. In case refugee status doesn't work then try the point system. If u have work experience, aged 18-40, educated, and speak English or French then u should score enough points to get into Canada. I think u can do this online. For more information go to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp for more info.

In Canada we have the Charter of Rights so if as soon u step on to Canadian soil u have rights. This is a major pull factor to Canada.

I'm sorry this is all I know
Good Luck!
