he is currently in the US and i'm in the UK, we hope to get married next year but preferably somewhere in Europe ie France, Italy, though i've heard the Carribbean is also an option. what would our legal procedure be? do we apply for a special visa to marry in any of these countries? also when we get married can he come straight to UK with me as my husband? if not, what should we expect to do? we will obviously be getting legal council, but i figured it would be a good just to get an idea of what to expect.

Mrs G..... we would get married in the US except.... lets say i'm having issues with immigration! but i really love the idea of going to caribbean, that way we get to have a honeymoon and we can make it just the 2 of us instead the entire family!! i dont want to be apart from him, but we are at the moment so..... as long as we get to be togethar. thanks so much for the advice, good luck with your wedding too! :-)

The EU is very strict on fiance visa's these days. They are afraid people will try to stay in the country. You will need a visa to marry in France and the UK. You can marry in the USA and in the Carribean without a visa. However, your fiance will need to return to the USA before coming to england. The only way one can stay in the UK after marriage is if they have a UK fiance visa ( which can only be given if you marry in england). The Pro of the UK fiance visa is that you can marry in the UK, he can stay after the wedding and apply for a spouse visa within the UK, so hed be with you basically. The con is that you must marry in the UK, within 6mths and you will have to pay the fee ( which is about $1050 USD). You will also have to pay the spouse visa fee so it can add up.
If you marry anywhere else your fiance will have to apply for a spouse visa within his country of origin. This can take anywhere from 1week-3mths, however I have been advised it will not take long if all documents are in order. Why not get married in the USA, have an extended honeymoon in FL while you wait to get the visa back? It will save you 1050 and you can be together.
I always recommend getting a lawyer when immigrating. Even though I was told by the consulate office that my case was very solid, I have hired a lawyer to ensure smooth sailing.
