I'm Canadian and would like to move to California asap. Help?!?

I live in Manitoba, Canada. And I have always wanted to live in California. Now tha Im 20, I am seriously contemplating moving there.
But I dont know how Id go about that. Im in university in an acting program now. But would I have to wait until next fall to register at an american school, in California? Would I be able to go to an american school. Do I need to get a green card or citizenship? And if so, how would I go about that? I've been trying to find websites that would give me all the info, but I'm not coming up with much unfortunately.
Would I be able to get a job there?
Because I would not be able to afford school and living arrangements otherwise, of course.

Girl I'm so sorry. If you are not married to an american or have a family member who can sponsor you, you're pretty much out of luck. you can apply for an F1 visa (which is for other then american students) you will have to pay tution costs apx 4x that of an american student, and will not be allowed to work untill the second year, and only work within your field of study. you have to prove that you can pay your own way while living in the US. After sept 11 if you were not born american then your pretty much treated like a terrorist by the US DHS. hope I helped, Sorry I could not give you a brighter answer. No, you cannot live and work in the United States without either a work visa or a green card.

Unless you have members of your immediate family in the United States you'll find it next to impossible to get a green card.

Unless you have a college education and/or job skills that are in high demand you'll find it next to impossible to get a work visa.

Look up TN visa on yahoo search. If you have a qualifying degree you can look for work in the USA. See www.goodbyecanada.com for details.

However as an actor you can only get a studio to sponsor you if you are already famous in Canada.

As for going to school in the US, can you afford the $30,000 a year it will cost? And understand there are 1,000,000 other wannabe actors in LA already. Maybe 2000 of them will move up from their waiter jobs to acting. But you, without a green card, cannot work even as a waiter.

The best you can do is to move to Vancouver and try to get minor acting work there.

Well it will NOT be ASAP

first you need to finish school and get some work experience in Canada before you can apply to USA.

Then you must look for a job and with the economy being as bad as it is - you may find it hard to get a job because then you would be taking a job away from an american.

if you wish to enroll in a US school - be aware that you will be paying INTERNATIONAL fees (which are huge) and you MUST also have thousands of dollars saved up to support yourself (including health insurance) during your studies - you will NOT be eligible to get any US scholarship or benefits.

Re the health insuracne - if you have any pre-existing condition you will find it very hard to get cheap health insurance. People with pre existing conditions are charged 3 or 4 times the healthy rates.

Canadian universal health will NOT cover you in USA.
