I'm wondering why you posted your question to the "Immigration" category - you say you're a US citizen, and you don't mention where you are now, but the answerers all assume you're here in the US, so what does your problem have to do with immigration?

The problem is if you were an illegal, your health care issues would be solved. This is a backwards system and it must be fixed. Our taxes should be taking care of US citizens, not the rest of the world!

These other answers about "our system only likes the rich" or "go to a free clinic" aren't the answer. We are spending BILLIONS each year on people that shouldn't be here.

Mexico, for example, should be taking care of their citizens instead of encouraging them to break the law and come here. Our current health care system is hemorrhaging and if someone says 'go to a free clinic" that is like sticking a tiny bandage on a gushing wound. It isn't the answer.

There are local health clinics all over America that provide care on a sliding scale. That means that they charge in accordance with what you earn in income. Do a web search for free clinics in your area.

Apply for financial assistance. Im not sure where though, but there is financial assistance for those who need it. I'm sorry youre going through this problem but America is land of opportunities, hard work and endurance is all it takes. Good Luck.

They are required to see you and provide you medical care...without exception. They will work out payment plans and provide sources of assistance where appropriate...so save the trolling Hillary...

I moved here and I resent this attitude so incredibly much that "oh why should I pay for you?" well buddy you already do! like that police department or that fire department or that library... don't you feel good when you know you're not gonna burn if your house was on fire or would you rather have to check your check-book before calling the fire dept? plus the fire is in your house and these are your children that will die, how does it concern me? the fire isn't at MY house, why would I pay for the fire department? you should have had better wiring in your house!

The government does not prevent you from seeking medical care, you just have to pay for it yourself.

I also have a family, what makes you think that you are entitled to take money away from my family to take care of yours.

I did not make the lifestyle choices that you made that caused you not to have insurance; why should my family pay for your mistakes?

Hi, i do not know how to answer your question but our country really isn't that great. Health insurance for poor people really are designed for median income families, the govt. has no interest in helping the poor, just helping the Elites of society, only when Govt. is threatened will they make changes because they are forced. Civil rights act, get real...they passed those laws in 1869 and it took almost 100 years to enforce them. Don't we all love lady liberty?

America hates its citizens. Thatâ€™s the only opinion I can come to.

My fiancÃ©e is a qualified RN, with an Honours BS Nursing. She is currently pregnant and since she has to take 4 days off work she has been threaten with the sack.

If she was made redundant she would be entitled to no health care, medicade level is $2K a year max earnings. The current system punishes people who have worked hard and fall on hard times. She currently has to work 12 hours shift up to 6 days a week. Her current insurance goes out of it's way not to pay for treatment. Most recently they told her she they would not pay for blood tests ordered by her doctor because she had not visited the doctor the same day they were done, her doctor does not do lab work and she went the next available time that it could be done.

The person who said why should I have to pay for your family please look at it logically. If you got cancer what would happen. First you would have to pay deductibles, co insurance payments, etc. You would be made unemployed since you were ill so much. If you were lucky to have private health insurance then you still would be paying silly money, insurance companies tend to pay 80% so an average yearly bill of $100K means $20K for you to find whilst unemployed. Medication for cancer can be up to 10 pills at a sitting, costing up to $100 a pill. Where are you going to get this money from? Would you sell the house, remember no income and a mortgage would mean the house would either be reprocess or you would have to sell it.

So you've survived the cancer and only have a few hundred thousand in debt, no house, no job and no insurance company that wants to insure you but at least you didn't pay for that kidâ€™s broken leg.

And if you had figured it out you already pay for people who don't have insurance through the high rate you pay, hospitals are going to absorb the debts of these people when they can pass it on.

UNCLE BEN - Emergancy treatment is the only area that is covered. Is cancer an emergancy? how about a broken leg? The high blood presure madication to stop you having a heart attack? They can still treat you and a lot do but how are you going to pay $300K when you only earn $10k a year? Either you pay very little of the bill and everyone else pays the rest of it, hence high medical price in the first place.

A doctors visit cost $250 in the USA if you didn't have health insurance. The same doctors visit only cost Â£20 in the UK for Americans to visit a GP. Why is the US doctor charging 5 times as much?

Why are you poor? Do you not have a job or just don't make enough money? If you have a low paying job, could it be because in your younger years you did not value an education? With a higher education, you could get a job at a place where they offer group health insurance. Individual health insurance isn't that expensive anyway. You can shop for them online. If that's not an option, go see your doctor. The office visit will probably cost you about $50-100. Most doctors are compassionate enough to even waive the fee if you cannot afford it. They probably have some sample meds that they can give you, courtesy of the big bad drug companies. If you cannot afford a $50 office visit, then you probably qualify for Medicaid. You can get information on how to apply for Medicaid online. Although, if you can afford a computer, I'm sure you can afford a $50 office visit.

Well, according to our wonderful Bush administaration and the neoconservatives who tell us they are the representatives of "moral values" you're only poor because you want to be poor. So its your problem.

Now see? Its very simple, and that means you're happy--because you want to be poor. And they're happy, because that means they are absolved of any responsibility for helping theirfellow human beings.

What I can't figure out is why they don't jsut go all the way and print a new Bible with things like the Sermon on the Mount left out. They obvously DON'T believe that part.
