Acadiens who settled in canada, left france some 400 years ago and settled in nova scotia. In 1755 they were forced by the british to be deported to either to UK, back to France and also to (what is now) Louisiana. Others fled north to New Brunswick where most acadians now live.
My canadian spouse is Acadian and his ancestors were from NB, and so I have learnt their history.
You are obviously NOT an acadian. But this lack of knowledge reflects badly on the NS and NB school systems - for not teaching the children about the acadians - certainly not in any depth. |
