The type D national visa valid for "Deutschland" does not grant authorization to travel to other Schengen countries; the German residence permit (Aufenthaltstitel) issued by the the German Immigration Office (Ausländeramt) at your town-hall of residence however waives the visa requirement for tourist travel to other 24 Schengen countries for up to 90 days in every 6 months period, regardless whether they are EU members or not (to include Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and the microstates Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, and Vatican City). It does not grant entry to the non-Schengen EU-countries Bulgaria, Ireland, Romania, and the United Kingdom.
