Your Permanent Resident visa is valid for 5 years from date of grant. If you are in Australia at the end of 5 years, you do not need to do anything to renew your visa and can still stay on legally as a PR unless you wish to leave the country. If you leave Australia for any more than a few months during your initial visa (or if you will be away when your 5 years is up) or for any length of time after the first 5 years, you must apply for a 5 year Resident Return visa.
In order to get a RR visa, you must have spent two (2) of the last five (5) years in Australia as a permanent resident
or
you must provide evidence of substantial business, cultural, employment or personal ties of benefit to Australia
and
if you have been absent for more than five (5) years, you must be able to provide evidence of compelling reasons for your absence - this is not easy to do.

I received my Australian PR status last August and have continued to stay in Adelaide till December. I have since travelled outside of Australia till now. I am planning to travel for a few more months. Am i allowed outside of Australia for more than 6 months, having just recently received my PR status? I have heard from a friend that i am not allowed to exceed 6 months before returning to Australia. |

I got married with an aus citizen in Australia and I am waiting for the temporary visa. Is there any restriction about time of staying in Australia to get PR. Because I am still a student and want to keep studying at overseas. I heard that I will have to be in Aus last 12 months to get PR. And if I would be able to get PR can I work at overseas.?
