I am an immigrant of illegal status, what can I do?
Find answers to your legal question.

I am an immigrant of illegal status, what can I do?

this is tough for me, but I turn 21 later this month, and don't know what to do. I was brought to the US when I was just a few months old, I went to private school my whole life, and I am now in college majoring in criminal justice. I pay my taxes, and have absolutely no criminal record. I know there are politicians working on a bill such as the DREAM act that will help me, but this seems like it is really far away. I am paying my own way in college, and am trying to go about everything the right way. Is there any hope for me? It is frustrating to think about my status especially when this is the only culture I know. What can I do? I have not been able to enjoy anything a normal 18-21 year old in this country is able to do such as go to clubs, bars, etc. but it is not like I need that. No one around me knows about my status so that makes it even more difficult. I always read all these comments saying illegal aliens are criminals, so therefore am I one? Helpful suggestions appreciated.

good luck kiddo my sis graduated from twu in 06 and after she left university she hit a brick wall .........I dont get why they let you study and learn so much and tell you that you can only go so far my sister had to join the work force and couldnt work in her field she was stuck as a nanny sure she got good money but she went through so much to digress and basically have a teenagers job my best advice to you is simply to look at your life and see what it would be like to leave the country ? if you come to the conclusion that you dont see a future or it isnt something you are willing to do simply stay...........
we dont have many options my family went to a immigration lawyer and you know what he said .......MARRY A CITIZEN
years and years of
work and to be told your only option is to get married to a citizen?
Since we have a relative who has the possibility to adjust her status he said the best thing for her is to get married to a citizen or remain single you can live with someone and hope and pray for changes in the current laws ....he also advised that since the DREAM act is up for voting again to stay in school......one of the key stipulation in the DREAM go to community college take some classes and be patient
It might seem like your life is on hold but what other options do we have?

I wish you the best of luck...

a bit of a tangent but this made me laugh
"Why dont you join the service? "

so on one had you dont like immigrant and then its okay to join the service ? give immigrants guns i can hear the slogans now! lol
not only is it not possible but why should it be possible arent there enough names to start up a draft instead i know my name is in there somewhere.............clearly you dont understand that all men must register to the armed services that doesnt mean they can join its simply a courteous gesture that people do to have proof for later immigration cases..
fantastic advice by the way

Sorry, there's absolutely no hope for you. It's impossible for you to adjust status while in the United States. Your best bet is to go home and make the best life possible for yourself.

Good luck.

Return to your native land and apply to come legally

Yes you are a criminal, crimes of the parents. your parents should have been charged with child endangerment bringing you here and living illegally all these years. You have to return home, expect a ten year ban and apply then. Dream act will never pass, American citizens do not want it!!!!!

Get an immigration lawyer to see if they can get you papers based on your job or schooling. If you have no criminal record that should help you out tremendously.

You missed the deadline to obtain status without a 10 year ban. If you had returned to your home country shortly after turning age 18 then you would not be held responsible and could have applied to return with legal status.

Now that you are 21 the law treats you as an adult and you are in jeopardy of deportation and the 10 year ban.

This is why illegal parents need to consider what they do to their child's future when they enter the US illegally.

Why dont you join the service? Ask not what your country can do for you,but what you can do for your country.~JFK~

I'm sorry about what you are going through, but it is not really anyone else's fault except for your parents and the US's immigration policy. I'm sorry that our politicians don't have the backbone to enforce our immigration laws or else I'm sure your parents would have never brought you here in the first place.

My parents were law abiding people and moved here LEGALLY so I never had to worry about being "illegal". I also paid my own way through college, and many Americans do the same. Just because you led a clean life, doesn't change your status. It also doesn't change my mind about illegal aliens in my country. The best bet is to move back where you came from and make your way back to the US legally in the future. Please be a roll model to all illegal aliens in our country.

You can go home and come back the legal way. While you may have had no choice as a child, you became an adult at the age of 18 and have chosen to remain illegal therefore, yes you are a criminal.

I've heard from friends that this site: http://www.legalusresident.com/home.php has info on how you can become a citizen legally. Good luck!

You need to do the right thing and get legal if you are going to stay.

The only way you'll be able to become legal is by marrying an American Citizen.
People don't understand that just "going back to where you came from" is insane. You have lived here since you were months old with your family ... what do you even know of your original country?
To those who say that, how would you feel if England took over this country and said all of you must go back to your country of origin. Let me see you surviv a week in Germany, Russia, Italy, Ukraine, etc . You guys probably don't even speak the language of YOUR country of origins.
Get smart and start reading. If you don't want immigrants here, don;t eat fruit, (they're the ones on the fruit farms) don't eat at restaurants, (they're the one's in the kitchen, cleaning, bussing tables etc) you'll never have babysitters (I have not seen a white woman YET pushing a baby stroller in Central Park that wasn't the mother)
I find that Americans are the most IGNORANT citizens in the world. They live in this country and know NOTHING about the immigration process or they wouldn't say things like "get legal" .... like you go and say I'll take a greencard and a side of fries.
I understand your pain ...
Good luck!

Anyone breaking the law has committed a criminal act. Your parents especially by putting you in this fix. You need to quietly finish school and then get a job that does not require a background check then get an immigration lawyer to help you legitimize your status. If at all possible do not get into trouble with the legal system. You might have to return to nation of birth but a good lawyer will fix this. I do not really have a problem with you but your parents screwed the pooch big time. They can claim they wanted a better life for you but look at the situation you find yourself in. Thru no action or fault of your own you find yourself in the position of being a criminal.

All illegals need to do something about it, either become legal or leave!

You were brought to the USA when you were just a few months old? You don't sound illegal to me? Were your parents legal or illegal? How were you brought up? There must be some way that you can obtain papers that will make you legal. I only wish that I was a lawyer so I could help you obtain legal status. It is people like you that we want in America not the illegals who are presently crossing the border. Are you afraid to talk to your local representative in order to put in for legal status? After all you have been here for so many years, you should be able to obtain citizenship.

I don't know what to suggest but my heart is going out to you. My husband is Guatemalan, here legally, but he gets treated poorly sometimes because of people's assumptions. It makes me feel so ashamed of my own culture. I simply don't agree with our government not having any compassion and just sending people who have grown up in this culture back to their "home" country which they probably know nothing about or is crime ridden. We tried living in Guatemala the past two years, and our daughter was born there, but we couldn't stay because the crime was completely out of control. We were robbed at gunpoint and there were threats of my daughter being kidnapped because she looks like me, very North American. It saddens me because of a couple things. One: the good people of Guatemala (along with many other countries) just have to put up with their loved ones being kidnapped, raped, killed, and robbed with almost no option to leave because to obtain a visa is difficult and costly and Two: my inlaws cannot come and visit because of the same issue of the visa and it's hard for us to visit with two small kids not to mention the risk of something dangerous happening. I'm very sorry for your situation. Hopefully our government will get their thumbs out of their butts and make a change that is positive for EVERYONE! Good luck y si hablas espaniol, Dios te bendiga.
