i am going to brazil alone for 6 months. i dont know any portuguese. i will be staying with my mothers family thier. i wanted to know if i will come back fluent or not?

A typical person that lives in the society will not be perfectly fluent after only 6 months. But, a typical person would be very conversational in the language and very able to get around with the language that they do know. Now we will just have to see if you are typical, above average, or below. |

Well I'm fluent in Spanish. My fathers Brazilian. I can understand it almost perfectly but i can't speak it. But my mom learned it after watching brazilian tv for a few weeks when she was down there once. So i suggest that you watch a lot of TV and try to understand it. |

nope.... my sister went to Dominican for six months and lived with a Dominican you pick up a lot and you can teach yourself from books and tapes I think you'll be able to pick things out of a conversation but won't be able to fluently speak it because of verbs and proper grammar |
