Having a Canadian passport will not allow you to live in Germany. You can go to Germany on vacation without a visa but you can only stay for 3 months and it will not allow you to work.
If you want to work and live there permanently, you need to get a job in Germany and a work permit. Germany is hit by the global crisis same as everybody else, unemployment around 8% average I think. You need to show that you have some skills that they can't find Germans with.
If you succeed, you will have to stay on a temporary work permit for 5 years until you can get permanent residency. If you leave for more than 3 months, you have to ask permission to return or they will revoke your PR:
Once you live in Germany for 8 years, you can apply for German citizenship provided that you are not taking social assistance or unemployment and that you have passed a German language test and a citizenship test. Germany normally does not allow dual citizenship so unless you can prove that it would be undue hardship for you to lose your other citizenships, they will make you renounce them before you get the German one. |

If you have a skill, you can work in Germany. But Germany is very strict when it comes to citizenship. You practically need to born into an ethnic German family or marry a German. |

Yo have to go to the German Consulate and put in for a visa to go to Germany.If you want to live there then you will have to apply for an Immigration Visa.If you are not in trouble of any kind I am sure they will give you one.They probably ask how you will support yourself or what kind of work will you do. |
